So clearly Doug Naylor can not count. In order to make a tenth series you need to make a ninth! Its the way counting works, you start with one and add another one number on top. Either way just make a new series, the whole of the Red Dwarf experience should never have been stopped. Every series was truly phenomenal and hilarious. My favourite has to be Kryten with his amazing expressions, which must be hard to pull-off in what appears to be quite a rigid mask.
Graphically, far more polished than it has ever been, but a little lack luster on the script, I would hve thought that after planning the old series nine and ten, and two movies from the original era, some of the gags and subtlety could have crept in from those scripts. I do agree however that Grant and Naylor should have a few pints and forget the financial rubbish and the bickering, and just get back to being great. If not, give Ben Elton a ring? All said and done it was good to see it back, though in France via the Web, missed Holly, any Holly, first two were hilarious, see no reason why another could't be also. Keep on going - I'll keep on watching and buying the DVD's - prodprof
Bloody great to see the lads back doin there stuff and a big thank you to dave for bringing them back, absolutly pissed myself laughing at the 3rd episode, please please please make more.
I loved it I got to see it thanks to youtube.... I can't wait to complete my dvd set with the back to earth dvd..there should be a No9 .... I can't enought red dwarf....I live in the usa please more dwarf
I was really pleased to get Red Dwarf back after so long. The cast looked great (a little older but that is to be expected). Also Craig had much more emotional range than before. The plot seemed to be lifted straight from the League of Gentlemen movie, where Tubbs and co find out that they are characters in a TV show and come to "our" reality to meet their makers and ask for more "life". Sound familiar? Not that I minded - I could take any amount of Red Dwarf. I would happily give my time free, making 3D models animations etc. if they would only make another series. Mart

Dear Dave, please can we have another series of the best show on tv. think most people will agree it wasnt the best start but by the end you could feel classic dwarf coming. dont let me down DAVE or i might have to do somthing that makes me engage innocent whistle mode!! p.s we want holly back,no offence hatty but norman not you
That was cryptic.... come on Mr Dave Sir and Mr Naylor Sir! we've had a taste and we all want MOREE!!
Before I mention the new specials I'd like to say that I'm a huge fan of Red Dwarf (I have all the series ... bought first on video then again on DVD). Of the 8 full seasons (to date) I would rate them as follows: * Series one was pure cheese - but brilliant all the same. * Series' two to five were Red Dwarf at its best. * Series six was funny but seemed a little tired. * Series seven was, in my opinion, abysmal. It wasn't just unfunny it was boring. This is the only season that I can't bring myself to re-watch on a regular basis. * Series eight was an improvement over seven ... but nowhere near 1-6. For me, the "Back to Earth" specials rank between series 7 and series 8 for quality. The premise was OK although hardly inspired (they’ve done that basic storyline twice before) – it had a few chuckles … but it was largely flat. Long gaps between laughs (and I use that term loosely) ... over-long buildups with little payoff. It had a very high cheese factor ... but not in a particularly funny way. There were no honest belly-laughs to be had anywhere in these specials. It was more an amusing "dramedy" as opposed to the laugh-out-loud comedy it should have been. They tried to be clever (Bladerunner references were pretty well done) – but it just wasn’t funny enough. I guess that's part of the balancing act. The fact that they had such a tiny budget (most of the SFX were done basically for free), and only had 14 days to shoot the entire thing, goes some way to explaining why it was so flat and seemed so forced all the way through. However after waiting 10 years I was hoping for something a little more inspired ... re-invigorated after the break so to speak. Don't get me wrong ... I don't think it was *terrible* (it was certainly better than most of the stuff on TV these days) it just wasn't classic Red Dwarf. I really hope they get the go-ahead to make series 10. But if they do they really need to go back to the roots of Red Dwarf and what made it funny. They also *really* need to film in front of a studio audience again … the live laughter adds something (and also gives them feedback as to what jokes work and what ones really really really don't) And they need to get Rob and Doug to settle their differences and work together again. It just hasn’t been the same since they went their separate ways. Just my 2c worth.
Mr. Naylor, Im from California and I can honestly tell you that ALL of my friends who enjoy Red Dwarf would/will pay to see Red Dwarf Season 10. So at even $35 a pop for the dvd, you, the cast and who ever gives up the money to make the episodes, is around $30,000 just from those I know alone. Imagine how much you could rake in for all of California. Now imagine all of the US. DONT GIVE UP! WE NEED RED DWARF! WE WILL PAY...that should be a simple enough reason yeah?
yay make series 10 lol i will definetly buy the dvds

Thanks to everyone involved in resurecting Red Dwarf after so many years away. I REALLY hope that this will see a return to the screen in the near future. Red Dwarf is very much alive still to this day and as fans we need more, I feel we need a bit of closure on the events that happened at the end of series 8!
Suddenly my days have become darker again, without a bright red star on my horizon to keep my hopes afloat and only the lingering memory of one wonderful weekend my world will truly become a sadder place ;-( (I.E Make More Now!)
It was brilliant thanks guys. I'll be buying the dvd asap. Twice just so I can keep one in its original wrapping. My collection wouldn't be complete without it. Missed Holly in Back to Earth though. Hope you'll bring either Norman or Hattie back soon along with the new show. Car Bug was brilliant. Wishing you every possible success.........

Absolutely brilliant! Please sir may we have some more? :)
i actualy realy enjoyed the special, but one thing was missing for me, and that was the canned laugh, the show just didnt feel complet efor me without it, but apart from that, it was realy realy realy goood, and id love to see a series 10 (with the canned laugh) great work doug, thanks
i hope the smegging smeg i can get dvd's {and not just empty boxes)of these 3 episodes cause my collection needs them..You're either a dwarfer or not. Those who reckon some of the later series lacked some of the humour and went more for visual effect, well that as maybe, but you got to remember we all grow and change and experimenting is what makes us.Personally i never tire of any of the episodes(and believe me i've watched them hundreds of times all of them)and i think they're the dogs nuggets.Doug you're a genius you'll find a way to do the film and the true fans will carry the RED DWARF way of life into another generation.
thanks dave and Doug for bringing it back, I can remeber writing to 'points of view' many light years ago looking for a 6th series found memories abound with this great show lol
Should do a series nine...

Very excited by the new episode...Red Dwarf as I know and love. Season 1 -6 Amazing. Season 7-8, A couple of good ones but the stories and humour just were not 'dwarf'. Im very happy to see things back on track! Bring on season 10!!!
What a great new episode, watched it at 9 and was blown away. The comments on the live chat are a bit harsh and I hope these people dont ruin it for us all by making the Producers think the show wasnt a hit for the fans!! I loved it.. I agree with skipping series 9 as I think near the end (series 7 & 8) the whole Red Dwarf story was getting way off track. So jumping ahead to series 10 and detracting yourself from the last few series is a good idea. I love the way in have little money you made the new episode look so great. And what was this about making 2 films!!! Why oh why could someone not give the money for that!! Look at some of the crap films they make today... come on people dip your hands in your pockets! ha ha Great work Doug! THANK YOU ;o)
I think I'm a bit weird coz I quite liked series VIII - there was lots of the old bunk scenes that made the first three series so great. However, I totally get why Doug would 'skip a series' and shift it into a totally different setting, as the conclusion of the last episode doesn't leave much scope for continuation. Roll on Back to Earth! Only 140 minutes to go! Woop woop!
I'm a big Red Dwarf fan but I really didn't like series 8. Things seem to rely on visual effects rather than plot and story and, for me, Red Dwarf has always been about how the characters interact and the really interesting and innovative story lines. I'm hoping that Doug means by "no series 9" is that in some way they've retracted some of the stuff that happened for them to arrive where the were in series 8. This is Red Dwarf where time, space and anything else can be altered. In doing this series 9 can't happen as it would suggest a continuation from series 8. Therefore, they have to jump forward to series 10 which is completely disconnected from series 8. That's my take on things anyway. Really can't wait until 21:00. Only 3 hours 33 minutes. Smeg the Smegging Smeg Smeggers!
Series 10!To steal a phrase from another sci fi show"MAKE IT SO!!!!!"

"Retire Series IX"? What the bejaysus are you on about Doug?! My god, less than eleven hours. Can't wait.
I'm really looking forward to the specials and future Dwarf! Thank you so much, Doug for keeping at it! The clips I've seen so far are fantastic!
We want a movie!! the fans will help you pay for the film
we love doug!
