Never Mind the Buzzcocks
Never Mind the Buzzcocks, the comedy quiz show that marries music with celebrity humiliation is back on Dave, but now with Simon Amstell at the helm. The award winning stand-up takes over from Mark Lamarr who presented Buzzcocks for an impressive 150 shows.
Catch Series 19 every Monday at 9.40pm, from 26th May.
On taking over, Amstell said: "I hope I can be the one exception to the universal, exceptionless rule that when a new host takes over an old show it is a horrible, embarrassing disaster."
He needn't have worried. Amstell has made the show his own, and whilst the jury is still out over who is the better presenter, there has never been anything embarrassing or horrible about his performance.
Meet Mr Amstell
Take one part sarcasm, add two parts wit, mix vigorously and serve with a pinch of salt. Questioning his guests with the demeanour of a slightly mad professor, Amstell doesn't back off until they have turned a deep shade of crimson. He honed this skill on Popworld, which would have been a run-of-the mill music show had it not been for his determination to humiliate some of the 'musicians'. Now in a post watershed slot, he has become somewhat of a loose canon and gleefully delves deeper where most presenters would back off. It's a miracle he hasn't been sued or slapped... yet.Whilst Amstell may appear to be struggling with puberty, underneath that boyish face there exists a highly developed comedy mind. Performing stand up since the age of 14 he was the youngest ever finalist for the BBC's New Comedy Awards. His TV work began with Popworld; a music show which he presented alongside Miquita Oliver (who subsequently appeared as a guest on Buzzcocks). After just one series of presenting Buzzcocks he won the Best Comedy Entertainment Personality at the British Comedy Awards. So welcome Simon, with comedy credentials like that you should fit right in around here.
