The Mighty Boosh 2
Ever been Rohypnoled by a swan, and woken up in Cancoon? Ever had a mountain goat grab you by the scrotum, run away with it and then found it for sale on eBay a day later? Ever been to a tea party with a herd of rhinos? What? You haven’t lived! If you're a fan of the weird, the wonderful and the damn right ridiculous, you're going to love series two of the Boosh.
Much like any self respecting band, the Boosh likes to re-invent itself to stay fresh, so apart from the characters, little else from the first series is the same. The Zoo-niverse is a distant memory and Howard and Vince now live in Naboo’s flat in Dalston. This rainy urban pad could not be more of a contrast to the psychedelic worlds and bizarre characters they encounter on their adventures around the universe.
From escaping the clutches of Old Gregg, a creature who is half man, half fish with a disturbing secret, to battling the Betamax Bandit, an obsolete format, The Mighty Boosh embraces the ridiculous like no other programme we know. Need proof? Here's an episode guide that, frankly, reads like a particularly puzzling acid-trip.
Ep 1: Call of the Yeti
The series kicks off with Howard taking Vince, Naboo (a shaman) and Bollo (a talking monkey) to a log cabin, deep in the woods for a short break. There they meet the cabin's half crazed owner, Kodiak Jack, who takes quite a liking to Vince. He quickly strikes a deal with nature loving Howard - one night alone with Vince in exchange for the location of the legendary Yeti. It doesn't take Howard long to accept this indecent proposal and soon the pair are in a pickle that only Naboo and Bollo can save them from.
Ep 2: Priest and the Beast
This episode has gone down in comedy legend. Howard has been up for four days straight searching for a new sound for the band and "doesn't know what's right or wrong anymore." Eager to help, Naboo tells him and Vince a long-winded story about Rudy, the psychedelic monk and his multi-membered companion, who went searching for the new sound in the desert. There they came across a village full of women and end up doing battle with the Betamax Bandit, an obsolete format. Confused? You will be. See if you can spot Razorlight and Rodger Daltery who also make brief appearances.Ep 3: Nanageddon
Vince has just got in from the pub where he informed two goth girls that he's a warlock in order to entice them back to the flat. To keep up the pretence he persuades Howard to 'goth up' and steals Naboo's book of black magic so he can impress them with some spell casting. Unfortunately the spells work and he summons up the evilest demon known to man - the Nanatoo, who happens to take the form of an old lady. The Goth girls remain unimpressed, leaving Howard and Vince to track down the escaped demon before she multiplies and destroys the whole universe.
Ep 4: Fountain of Youth
Howard is sick of been mistaken for Vince's dad and is having a bit of an age crisis. Taking pity on Howard, Bollo lets slip that Naboo has the directions to the fountain of youth. Finding a sacred amulet and a map amongst Naboo's things, Howard and Vince travel to the desert of nightmares on Naboo's home planet of Xooberon. Here they encounter a race of blue zealots who worship Vince as the amulet holder, and enslave Howard. Meanwhile the Hitcher, an old favourite Boosh villain, is keeping his polo eye on proceedings and tricks Howard into stealing the amulet from Vince. Only Abbu, Bollo and a rough papery ally can save them.Ep 5: The legend of Old Gregg
Having just played the worst gig in the history of music, Howard and Vince decide to escape for a week to replenish their creative juices at Black Lake. Staying at local fisherman's tavern, The Prawn's Head, they befriend some locals who advise them to do a spot of night fishing. Out on the lake Howard doesn't take to fishing quite as well as Vince, who can literally woo the fish out of the water just by blowing them kisses. Vince is banished from the boat and returns to dry land to show off his impressive haul to the locals, who then tell him about the legend of Old Gregg, a half man, half fish who has a taste for human meat and harbours a disturbing secret. Meanwhile Howard is alone on the lake, getting to know exactly what that secret is.
Ep 6: The Nightmare of Milky Joe
Vince and Howard decide that London isn't big enough for them anymore, so catch a boat to America so they can attend the Pieface records showcase. On their way Vince gives the ship's captain some unwanted styling tips and they find themselves thrown overboard and marooned on a desert island. Quickly getting fed up with each other, they craft friends for themselves out of coconuts. Howard ends up trapped in a violent relationship with his coconut companion, Precious Lilywhite and lashes out, accidentally killing her. The pair then try to dispose of the body, but the whole thing is caught on camera by Serge – the coconut film director. Will the coconut court find them guilty or not guilty? When is it on?
