Would I Lie To You?

Would I Lie To You?

Did Dom Jolly go to school with Osama Bin laden? Is there an Anne Robinson flavour of ice cream? Did Tara Palmer-Tomkinson once eat a diamond? If these are the kind of questions that rattle around in your head, nagging at you day-in day-out, then you're going to love Would I Lie To You?

Hosted by Angus Deayton, with team captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack, Would I Lie To You? assembles TV's most eloquent comedians and pits them against each other in a game of bluff, double bluff and triple bluff (or is that just back to 'bluff' again?)

So how exactly does it work?
Contestants take it in turn to relay embarrassing personal tales, or incredible facts to the opposing team. Some of them are true, some of them complete codswallop. The other team must then decide whether what they are saying is true or false by interrogating them. Some of the personal tales are quite revealing, and you may be shocked by what you learn about the celebrities. Or you may not, you big old cynic.

But that sounds suspiciously like Call My Bluff...?
Yes, agreed, there may be some similarities in the format. But where Call My Bluff is now around 1,000 years out of date, this is shiny, modern and has comedians you have actually heard of. Oh, and Sandy Toksvig is nowhere to be seen. Instead you get guests like Frankie Boyle, Vic Reeves, Dara O'Briain and Jimmy Carr and these three jokers...

Angus Deayton

Angus Deayton

Once described as 'TVs Mr. Sex', Angus Deayton used to present Have I Got News For You? before some unfortunate allegations forced him to leave. HIGNFY's loss is WILTY?'s gain though, with Angus once again displaying the dry wit and steady hand that is the trait of all great quiz show hosts. By golly, it's good to have him back.
David Mitchell

David Mitchell

If you don't know who David Mitchell is, you've probably just arrived in this country. In which case, welcome. What you may not know about the Peep Show star is that he is Cambridge educated, and had aspirations of being prime minister at one point. These days he doesn't waste his superior brainpower on anything quite so serious, and instead uses it to devise incredibly funny jokes. Usually at the expense of Anne Robinson.
Lee Mack

Lee Mack

Lee is the chalk to David Mitchell's cheese. Starting out as a Bingo caller in Southport, he then moved onto Pontins to work as a redcoat, where he was sacked for appearing drunk on stage. He finally hit fame at the Edinburgh fringe festival in the mid nineties, where he won the So You Think You're Funny? award. These days he's something of a stand up legend and he's also presented They Think It's All Over and scored success with his own sitcom, Not Going Out.
