Five mins with Seb Loeb

Win, crash, win. If ever there was a season start to excite the emotions of a rally driver, it's been that of Sebastien Loeb in 2008.

However, the compact, heavy-lidded Frenchman doesn't exactly wear his heart on his sleeve. At times he seemed barely awake, although that might be his way of coping with the scrum at the Geneva Motor Show, where he was carrying out publicity duties for Citroen. Could we grab five minutes, Sebastien?

So, a rocky start. What's your take on the season so far?

It's going a bit better after Mexico. We lost a lot of points at Sweden after we went off the road, so now we are again in contact for the first place in the championship.

What happened in Sweden?

We just went off the road. It happened when we tried to fight and when you fight, sometimes you make a mistake.

Where you fighting harder than usual?

No, like everytime. But sometimes it happens. I can't say more.

What about the competition. Are you finding it harder, easier?

We have enough competition. Last year the fight was with Gronholm, and we thought we would be left alone a bit this year, but Latvala has improved a lot since last year and he has also a good car with the Ford. I think we will have some good fights with him.

Were you surprised by his pace?

I knew he was able to go fast, but we didn't know if he... well last year he was not so constant and he was doing some mistakes, but this year it seems like he has a consistent performance everywhere.

What rallies are you looking forward to?

For the moment I'm just looking to the next one in Argentina, so I'm sure we will have to test a bit before, try to improve the car again.

You've got four championship titles under your belt now, what more do you want to achieve?

Nothing special. My goal is just to try to win rallies, because it is my passion to drive. I'm so happy that my job is my passion and I don't have any more things to prove really, but I just like what I do so my goal is to finish out the season and hopefully take a fifth title.

Do you think about retiring?

I have a two year contract, but after that I don't know. I'm not thinking about it at the moment, but maybe I will, to do something else in the future.

They're calling the Mexican J-WRC winner Sebastien Ogier 'the new Loeb'. He's fast and French, but has he got what it takes?

He is a very good young driver and I'm sure he has a good future. So yes.
