At long last, Land Rover launches the Freelander replacement. Bigger diesel, slicker tech and plusher trim (as well as a bigger bill) put the Freelander back on top.
Strengths: It'll go off-road alright, but the Freelander is superior on-road too. The big-hearted new 2.2 diesel has punch where before there was just push, and there's lots of space inside.
Weaknesses: In a word, expensive. Sure it starts at £21,000, but there's precious little kit for that money. Almost too big, nearly as wide as a Discovery.
