Merc's junior exec saloon grows up to ape the edgy design of the big S-class. Mostly auto diesels sold these days, and jolly good they are too. Ripsnorting AMG version coming later.
Strengths: Does everything you'd ask, even carry adults comfortably in the rear this time. Diesels are smooth and frugal, petrols just smooth. Plush to drive, rather than racy.
Weaknesses: Expensive for family travel, especially after hitting the option list (metallic paint: £620) just to get the essentials. C-class image is divisive in this country.
