James May's Top Toys

James May's Top Toys

Want to see James May brutally execute an Action Man? Then you're a bit odd. But you'll love this show.

Forget your PlayStations and Wiis. Those of us over a certain age know that true enjoyment can only come from comparing numbers on bits of card, or fiddling with small plastic plane parts. Are you ready to come over all nostalgic and old? Are you?James May has always been a playful chap. This is the bloke who was fired from a car magazine for slyly hiding a very rude message in one issue. Spelt out with the large red capital letters that began each car review, it let eagle-eyed readers know that the very effort of creating the hidden message was "a real pain in the arse."

But if there's one thing that James enjoys more than getting fired from car magazines, it's classic toys. You know the sort we mean: Etch-A-Sketch, Top Trumps, Action Man. The sort that grinning C-list celebs get excited about on talking head nostalgia-thons. But luckily this isn't a talking head nostalgia-thon. This is James May revealing just how some of the world's most iconic toys actually came to be. It's fascinating stuff, and there's even a bit where James May shoots an Action Man with a rifle. What more could you want from a night in front of the box?
