Top Gear Winter Olympics Special

Have you ever watched a Winter Olympics and thought - yes, this is thrilling. Yes, I'm on the edge of my seat. But it would be much better if those skeleton and flesh thingamajigs were replaced with big, shiny metal cars. Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May must have had exactly the same petrol-fuelled thought because, by God, they've only gawn and done just that.

The Top Gear nutters head to Lillehammer in Norway to stage their very own car Winter-motive Games and what follows is a snow-covered collection of some of the most frenetic and funniest stunts the show has produced to date.

Auto antics on offer include Clarkson trying to drive a Jaguar XK around an ice rink faster than a speed skater, The Stig desperately clinging to a snowmobile haring down a ski-jump and James and Jezza competing against each other in a biathlon using an Audi Q7 and a Volvo XC90. The loser has to eat some deadly yellow snow. Yuk.

And you simply haven't witnessed the potential ice-hockey has to offer until you've watched a match using Suzuki Swifts and a big inflatable puck. Best of all, though, has to be the rocket-powered ski-jumper.

The team rig a rusty, 20-year-old Mini with rockets ("This actually is rocket science," Clarkson marvels, as scientists looked on blankly), place it at the top of a giant ski slope and send it hurtling downwards with fire surging out of its backside and enough power to send it crashing to its doom. A daring, dangerous and almost completely pointless feat, certainly never accomplished before. As Hammond was heard to gasp afterwards: "We are now at the cutting edge of cocking about."

Yep, after playing Doctor Who, being a Top Gear presenter has to be the best job on telly. Hands down.
