Ray Mears' Extreme Survival

Ray Mears' Extreme Survival

Watch in wonder as doyen of survival, Ray Mears, is dropped into a different inhospitable location each week and just left to survive.

As well as a lot of lessons in bushmanship, there are plenty of moments to recreate the call of the wild - wildlife around the camp and survival stories around the campfire, backed up by survivor interviews.

Ray's journey takes him into the jungles of Thailand where he meets veterans of the war in Vietnam, to the Naliboki Forest in Belarus where Jews and partisans once took refuge from the Nazis, to Namibia’s parched Skeleton Coast where so many victims of shipwrecks have perished, to Alaska where he relates three amazing tales of survival despite freezing temperatures and isolation, to the Adirondacks in Northern America in the footsteps of a 250-year-old British expeditionary force, and to New Zealand, where one man who lost both legs to frostbite is preparing once more to brave the heights of Mount Cook where he nearly lost his life. And remember. Ray is doing all this - so you don't have to. We have a lot to thank him for.

Must say i watched the new episode of ray's and was hooked. As i have said before I've met him, and seen him on his last tour around the country and found him so down to earth. If i could only have had my chance in life again i would have done what he is doing now. I do go out and about and put some of my bushcraft skills to practice, But finding woodlands in my area where you can have permition to stay a few days & have a camp fire is very difficult.(Northamptonshire area, if anyone can help!)"Keep makeing the programs ray & lookforward to another tour."

Ray Mears is a good survival instructor and tries to take his time to show you how things work. I can honestly say having done arctic, desert and jungle survival training you need every ounce of knowledge and have to improvise. What is more soul destroying is when you are alone without a buddy or camera crew. The main thing to remember is never lose your knife, you can lose everything else but not your knife! It is nice to have picked up extra tips from Ray Mears which just goes to show you can never know enough.

If i was allowed to take one item to a desert island, it'd be Ray Mears with all his kit & helpers. Bear Grills could bring the beer & light the bbq !

Watched Ray all day on Sunday 14th June 2009 (wicked) I am now buying the book Wildflower: The Babara Crawford Thompson Story by J. Warren. Can't wait to read this. Can someone help me find a book; might be called "Whispering Wind" - About an Australian who trecked in the out back with the Aborigenes - its about how much he had learnt from the tribe he was with - and how he grew to respect Aborigenes, old rare photos inc in this book. I am very interested in finding out about this book - tried all book shops... I think I may have the wrong name??? Please help. Thanks Anne

As Author of the book "Wildflower" The Barbara Crawford Thompson Story, I would like to thank Ray Mears for having my book on his show. As I am a self- published Author, I realise that most people that watched his show are unable to find me or my email. I am available on my Blog site by Google the full title of the book. Regards Raymond J Warren Brisbane
