  • Even though we humans have struggled for centuries to find a cure for the common cold, monkeys needn't worry. Monkeys never catch cold.

  • A monkey yawning means that either he is tired or he is livid at something. Similarly grinning or pulling the lip is a sign of aggression, along with head bobbing and jerking the head and shoulders forward.

  • Chimpanzees use tools more than any other animal except man.

  • Howler monkeys have earned their name due to the fact that they are the loudest monkeys on the planet - their howl can be heard as far as 10 miles away.

  • The tip of a spider monkey's tail can support the weight of his entire body. In a totally unrelated matter, they are the species of monkey that are used in films more than any other.

  • During the Napoleonic Wars a shipwrecked monkey once washed ashore in Hartlepool, whereupon it was arrested and put on trial for being a French spy. Found guilty, the monkey was hanged from the mast of a fishing boat. The term 'Monkey Hangers' is still attributed to anyone from Hartlepool. But they don't like it.

  • In 1924, a monkey was tried and convicted for smoking a cigarette in South Bend, Indiana.

  • Sea Monkeys are not monkeys, but shrimps. And they're rubbish.
