The longest hair currently on record belongs to Hoo Sateow from Thailand. He hasn't had a haircut for 70 years. Measuring in at 5.15 metres, Mr. Sateow believes his lengthy locks are the key to his healing powers.

An average human loses up to one hundred strands of their hair every day.

Although human hair is the second fastest growing tissue in the body after bone marrow, it only grows about 1cm a month. Contrary to popular belief, cutting your hair doesn't actually make it grow any faster.

A baby's hair begins to grow around the third month after conception. The total number of follicles is determined before the baby is born and will never increase, it will only decrease over time.

A single strand of hair has a diameter of about 0.02 to 0.04 mm and an average life span of between two and seven years. When viewed in cross section, straight hair appears round, whereas curly hair actually looks flat.

In 1990, American Vivian Wheeler decided to give up her battle with facial hair and let it grow. Ten years later, with a total length of 27.9cm, Vivian had grown her way into the record books for the longest beard on a living female.
