Series 2 Episode 14: Red Dwarf X special with Craig Charles
Posted by Ben Shires on 28 Sep 12 in Red Dwarf X
Craig Charles is back as the brilliant Dave Lister for the tenth series of the highly anticipated Red Dwarf X. The other cast members have had their say now it's time for the vindaloo lover to have his.
It’s become something of a tradition of late for me to start these blogs with a few choice words, and this week I could think of none more appropriate than these: “It’s cold outside, there’s no kind of atmosphere. I’m all alone more or less” Yep, this slightly bleak sentiment can only mean one thing – autumn is upon us once more. Oh, and it’s the final smegging episode of our Red Dwarf X podcast specials, too. But dry those eyes, podlings; we’ve got one more week of podcast fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun before Red Dwarf X the series finally hits our tellybox proper from Thursday 4th October.
In the meantime, one man who will be dreading it, but only in the hair stakes of course, is Dave Lister, who by his own admission, is “a tasteless, uncouth, tone-deaf, mindless, revolting, randy, blokeish, semi-literate space bum”. I know, I hate it when people only mention their good points. Fortunately for us, the man playing him, Craig Charles, has a far more modest and down to earth disposition In fact, I’ve never known someone who looks as at home on screen driving taxis as he is spacecraft be as likable in real life. If I got in his cab, you could bet your boots I’d be giving him a tip. As it was, it felt a little awkward at the end of the interview, and I almost had to force him to take the pound.
Someone else who trades in awkwardness (and it has to be said, small eyes too) is comedian Simon Evans, who dropped by this week to chat about all sorts. Not the licorice ones mind, their mention has been strictly banned round Dave Towers ever since I signed an as-yet-unannounced sponsorship deal with a well known sweet brand we shall for the time being call Smaribo. For legal reasons, I am required to point out that this last insinuation has no basis whatsoever in truth, although if a representative from the inferred sweet manufacturer which kind and grown ups love so were to approach me, let’s just say I’d think it were a ‘sweet’ deal.
And on that baffling aside it’s time to say goodbye to our Red Dwarf X specials.
Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast x

SIMON EVANS!! I always manage to forget his name but I love him, although he sounds more like Andrew Lawrence on this podcast! And Craig Charles was rather pleasant too, much nicer than our David suggested when he met him in Hull thirty years ago! Hurrah!
