Alex Horne and Ben

Hello, greetings, salutations and good tidings. That’s right, not only have I discovered the wonders of a thesaurus, but I’m also nearly incoherent with excitement.

Excitement because, at last Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival is nary a lick away from being upon us. And that not only means a truckload of prime comedy slices for the good folk of the East Midlands, but for you, faithful podcast listeners, and to be honest, the treacherous ones too, it heralds the beginning of a daily dose of Dave, as the Dave Weekly becomes the Dave Weekly...DAILY!

Yep, the name may not make much sense, but then making sense has never been a calling card of this podcast. What it does mean, however, is that you can look forward to a 15 minute injection of laughter into your lugholes every day of the festival, beginning with today’s bumper half hour extravaganza. And who better to launch this audio milestone than a man who joined us on our very first foray into the murky world of podding? Comedian, potential record breaker and linguistic connoisseur Alex Horne dropped by Dave Towers to give us an update on how long he’s been spending in the bathroom, Viking hygiene habits and his attempt to become the world’s oldest man – and he’s doing considerably better than the last time we spoke. Not only that, but old Horney was also able to impart his wisdom on the best ways to wee and raise children. It should be pointed out that these are often mutually exclusive activities. But to be honest, he could convince me of anything as long as all his words were filtered through that lovely auburn beard of his.

Frog and Bucket award

Elsewhere, we were on the road in preparation for upcoming Leicester jaunts with a trip to Manchester and the Frog and Bucket Comedy Club, recent recipient of the Dave One Night Stand award for best comedy night in association with Absolute Radio. If the name doesn’t already ring a bell, it’s the venue that launched the careers of Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas, Jason Manford and John Bishop, along with a whole host of other comedians who don’t have best selling DVDs but are still thought funny by discerning comedy audiences and their mums. In what was a lovely night all round, I was on hand and on stage to deliver the award and provide a perplexingly old fashioned side note for a discerning Mancunian audience.

And with that feather in my tweed cap, it’s off to Leicester we roll.

See you soon. Toodles doodles xx
