LCDisco

LCDisco LCD Soundsystem are hanging up their turntables. That may be sad but you can blame it on the boogie.

The wonderful LCD Soundsystem are soon to be no more. Hot Chip guitarist, Al Doyle, who also plays with James Murphy's LCD has revealed that the group are "on permanent hold". This is sad, sad news for anybody who loves music. When LCD Soundsystem burst onto the scene in 2005 they gave dance music the kick up the arse it needed to move on from the admittedly glorious remixing of the likes of 2Many DJs and they released one of the best albums of the past decade in 'Sounds of Silver'. I'll say it again, it's sad.

But although all good things come to an end, sometimes really amazing things come along afterwards. Doyle also revealed that the band were planning on doing something rather exciting: "We were thinking of doing something where we find a lot of the old disco singers in New York that might still be around from the 70s and get them in as guest vocalists with LCD as a backing band and tour around as a disco heroes style show." A disco heroes style show!

I think it's time for a little confession.

I bloody love disco. So do most of my mates. I love the stuff that's generally believed to be quality disco like Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' or Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' but I also love the really dodgy stuff like 'It's Raining Men' and the 'YMCA' - yeah the really dodgy stuff.

Now is this so wrong? It has been known for me and my housemate to find ourselves dancing on the living room table to artists like Sylvester or The Tramps at 2am on a Thursday morning - but why is there such a stigma attached to two straight guys having a little boogie to some disco? Only very rarely can we be found marching around, shirts spinning round our heads, to 'In The Navy' but you will often find us breaking out into Barry White's "You're My First, My Last, My Everything". We're not singing the words to each other mind - we're just having a little sing-song.

I think the time has come for all hot blooded young men to come out as the disco fans they really are. If New York's uber-cool LCD Soundsystem can admit they like to get down tonight and feel mighty real it is definitely time for the rest of us to. Remember as the brothers Gibb once told the world - 'You Should Be Dancing'.

Enjoy!
