Mock the Week has writers. There, I've said it. You can all go "Ah ha!" at me. Of course, the writers' job isn't to come up with jokes for the performers (or at least, if it is, they'd let me have some of that gold wouldn't they? You mean to tell me that I sit around in the afternoon, all on my own in that dressing room, struggling to pull two gags together and next door the panellists are being spoon fed the funnies? I mean, how harsh is that? Those greedy bastards.)

I've had the pleasure of appearing a couple of times now on Argumental, Dave's own panel show. It's always an enjoyable place to perform because you get a proper chance to talk, to interact and to argue loudly. It's comedians, just guffing off, and then turning on each other. I mean that shit probably writes itself, right?

Straight out of the gate, let me thank Dave for the opportunity to write this blog for a few weeks. Like the public don't see enough of me and Dave together as it is. I make a couple of shows a year (genuinely; we only do 11 episodes of Mock the Week) but thanks to Dave and the lucky fluke of birth that places me directly in the sightline of their demographic, every programme is lovingly broadcast up to seven times a night until the tapes themselves have worn out and all that remains is a single flickering image of me pressing a buzzer while Frankie finishes a withering joke about Kerry Katona.
