Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle is one of the most evocative ruined castles in England with over 1,000 years of turbulent history.

According to legend, King Edward the Martyr was killed at Corfe in 978, by his stepmother, Elfryda, who wanted her own son, Ethelred "The Unready", to become king. In 1646, the castle was blown up by Parliamentarians.
