Forth Bridge

The Forth Bridge is Scotland's biggest listed building and an impressive example of civil engineeering, renowned throughout the world.

An amazing example of Victorian industrial technology. Completed in 1890, after seven years of construction, when HRH Edward Prince of Wales tapped into place a 'golden' rivet. The bridge is now being considered as a UNESCO world heritage site.

The 2.5 kilometre (1.5 mile) structure is the world's first major steel bridge, with its gigantic girders ranked as one of the great feats of civil engineering.

A staggering number of men, believed to be as many as 98, lost their lives in the building of the bridge. One log book of accidents and sickness had 26,000 entries.
