Blackpool Tower
Why I nominated this site: The 'Wonderland of the World' as it was known, was completed in 1894 - not only the Tower, but a magnificent Victorian Ballroom and the world's most famous Wurlitzer Organ played and Broadcast by Reginald Dixon from 1930 - 1970. The tradition of Ballroom Dancing is still carried out daily in the summer season.
It once housed splendid roof-top gardens and ornately decorated lounges and tea rooms. Much of this is still visible today. There is also a permanent and very ornate Circus ring sited between the four legs of the Tower.
The 'Tower Top Lift Ride' offers views over Lancashire as well as Ireland and the Isle Of Man on a clear day.
