Who Do You Think You Are: Series 5

The hit genealogy series continues apace with its most emotionally-charged series yet. Series five once again assembles a group of celebrities and sets them off on a hunt to explore their family histories, which leads to always surprising but sometimes incredible results.

Patsy Kensit
Actress Patsy Kensit’s father was a known villain, involved with infamous London gangsters of the 1960s, the Krays and the Richardsons. But before the crime, Patsy finds family members that were honest and worked hard in tough times – great-great-great-great grandfather, Reverend James Mayne, became a legendary figure in the slums of the Victorian East End. For Patsy, her journey puts the ghosts of the past to rest.

Boris Johnson
Boris Johnson, meanwhile, explores his family’s roots in Turkey, where he finds a great-grandfather who was caught up in political struggle and fought for what he thought was right. He also, dramatically, traces his lineage on the other side of his family all the way back to a German prince who was a direct descendant of George II, which links him to today’s royal family.

Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen
Designer Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen looks into his sea faring roots, Jodie Kidd uncovers a political scandal in her Newcastle-based family and Esther Rantzen discovers a black sheep and a connection to jewellery in her search.

Jerry Springer
But Jerry Springer’s story is one of the most emotional in Who Do You Think You Are? history. The legendary TV host knew that his parents had escaped to London from Nazi Germany just three days before the outbreak of World War II, but he wants to find out more. He makes the painful journey back to Germany to find out what happened to the rest of his Jewish family during the war. Nothing prepares him for the horrors that await.
