Vic Reeves on Harris Tweed
Helpful Tools
Vic Reeves is famous for two things - his surreal sense of humour and his dapper dress sense.
The self-styled ‘fashion leader’ wants a new winter suit and has his heart set on one made out of a material so steeped in British history and tradition that it is protected by its very own Act of Parliament – tweed.
In this film, Vic trains his zany eye on the world of gentleman’s tailoring as he designs his own suit from scratch and explores the many eccentric faces of British tweed: one moment he's hanging out with a cutting-edge London fashion designer, the next he's creeping through the highland undergrowth (the kind of task that tweed was originally designed for).
Visiting the Outer Hebrides, Vic sees the cloth for his new suit being hand-woven by a local crofter in the traditional way before it is sent to his London tailor who will make the new suit to Vic’s personal instructions in time for a gala showbiz event in the capital.
Vic Reeves in brief
An integral part of British comedy, Vic Reeves and comedy partner Bob Mortimer put the nonsense back into surrealism.
Born in Leeds, 1959, christened James Roderick Moir, the young Vic Reeves changed his name and moved to London to work on the alternative comedy circuit - meeting Bob by chance after pulling him on to the stage one night.
Television hits include: Vic Reeves Big Night Out, The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, Shooting Stars, Bang Bang, it’s Reeves and Mortimer.
