Griff Rhys Jones

Griff Rhys Jones

What's your first association with Griff Rhys Jones? 'Mel Smith' you say? How predictable! Did you not know that Mr Rhys Jones provided the voices for the cartoon skeletons in Funnybones - he even sang the theme tune. Read on for more revelations.

A Cambridge graduate, Rhys Jones broke into television after appearing on Not the Nine O'Clock news where he met his future partner in comedy, Mel Smith. To avoid looming unemployment the funny pair founded their own company in 1981, TalkBack Productions, which has since produced British comedy gold: Smack the Pony, I'm Alan Partridge and Big Train, to name but a few.

They enjoyed a long run of success with their own production, Alas Smith and Jones, the infamous sketch show which ran from 1984 until 1998.

Other claims to fame include playing Toad from Wind in the Willows, starring in Vauxhall TV adverts as a 'boffin' and writing various books including, To The Baltic with Bob. Oh, and don't forget our initial Funnybones fact...
