Waking The Dead

Thread Starter: p.murray    Started: Tue 27 Jun 2006    Replies: 12

Is there any chance of UKTV Drama showing an episode of 'Waking The Dead' called 'Fugue States'? I missed one of the two episodes when it was first shown on BBC 1 due to a power cut, and have never seen it repeated since. The episodes that are being shown at present I have seen I don't know how many times now, yet this one seems to be slipping through the system somehow.
Can you advise?
Regards,
P. Murray :

There can never be too much WtD on TV!

No probs! We try to maintain continuity as much as possible - honest!

Ohhh, OK then. Thanks David. I must admit I assumed the TV guide I use had got the listing wrong when it said it was a different episode on in the later slot until I went to watch the recording and found it was indeed the one they'd said. Never mind, I'm sure I'll get a chance to see the episode I missed another time. Smile

No - it's a lot more complicated than that I'm afraid. When we acquire a series, we HAVE to play it X number of times. Some of those times will be in peak, some of them will be late night. I'm afraid, because of this, some of the scheduling won't seem very logical if you're used to following a series in one of the later slots. Unfortunately, peak time has to take priority.

Is there any rhyme or reason to the broadcasting of episodes on UKTV Drama? Currently series 4 is being shown at 9 pm, yet series 3 at 12.45 (ish) slot. In a couple of weeks time both slots will be showing series 4 but that means those of us who find the 12.45 slot better for whatever reason have missed out on episodes.

I've seen others complaining about this type of thing on other dramas. What do you do over there? Just grab a video out of big pile and hope for the best? Confused Wink

I think it's on the grounds of a real life case - whether that means it's been pulled indefinitely or not, I'm not sure...

Thanks for the reply, David, I did wonder it there was something contentious in the story.

Unfortunately, p.murray (for us!) I suppose that means it might not even appear on the DVD.

Wonder if it's contentious as far as another author is concerned or on the grounds of a real life case?

Of course, it would be the one episode I haven't seen, wouldn't it!! At least it has answered the question. I think I will now have to wait until series 4 is released on DVD!!

Again, thanks for the info.

Hi guys - I don't know the full story behind this but we can't get "Fugue States", so we have to show series 4 of Waking the Dead without it. Apparently there's some kind of legal problem regarding something in the storyline.

cheers

No, it's not the same at all reading the synopsis. Smile

I just wondered whether it was anything to do with the fact the story was about children being kidnapped. Still, there have been some equally sensitive subjects dealt with through the series.

Good idea to ask them direct - hope you get an answer!

Thanks for that. When I missed the original showing, I quickly scanned the episode synopsis (but it's not really the same as watching, is it?), and nothing seemed out-of-the-ordinary. I have contacted UKTV Drama direct asking the same question. If I receive a reply, I shall post it here.

Hmm, OK, I thought I 'd replied to this but it seems not.

Anyway, what I said was it was my first post and this was the very question I wanted to ask.

Looking at Digiguide it seems Fugue States is being passed over on UKTV Drama (although admittedly they don't always show episodes in the correct order). The Digiguide listing shows the series jumping from False Flag to Anger Management.

I wonder if there's something contentious or particularly sensitve about the story of Fugue States. There must be a reason for it not being shown - unless the BBC has lost it. Wink
