Does anyone remember a show starring Iain Cuthbertson

Thread Starter: TimP26321    Started: Fri 24 Oct 2008    Replies: 3

as a Scottish gangster recently released from a long stretch in side and trying to get back on his feet and re-establish his old empire. I can't remember the title of the show, but I do remember I enjoyed it.
And his catch Phrase(Glasgow accent.........)
".......I'm back.....definately back"

When I know what it was called I can ask Alibi to show it!!

Thanks

The programme you're after was called 'Charles Endell Esq'. This was made in 1979 and followed Charlie Endell, having served several years in prison, return to Glasgow.

It was giving the character, originally in 'Budgie' and played by the brilliant Iain Cuthbertson, a chance to branch out on his own.

I have distant memories of this series, especially the theme tune (Which I think Iain sang!!)

Due to a strike at ITV in 1979, only 6 episodes were ever made and aired, and to my knowledge there has never been a repeat or DVD release!!

Confused

Hi Livewire.
I suppose it could have been. I don't remember Adam Faith though. ISTR Ian Cuthbertson had a sidekick called Hamish,(Don't remember the chap's name who played Hamish but he has dark skin, distinctive looks and a Scottish accent.I think he might also have been in "Porridge" I think his name is Something....McKenna?).
Google has turned up a sequel....."Charles Endell Esq". I wonder if that was it?

Hi Tim -

Are you thinking of "Budgie", which also starred Adam Faith as Ronald 'Budgie' Bird?

Iain Cuthbertson played Charles (Charlie) Endell. a Glaswegian sex shop owner/crime boss.

It was a great programme. Iain Cuthbertson was one of the best.
