I really enjoyed seeing the entire series of Tenko again during April and the reunion on 30th May. What a wonderful actress Stephanie Cole is, it's a shame that she hasn't done anything since the series Waiting For God. Don't if anyone is watching the current series on ukhistory Kessler the follow up to Secret Army, but it's very interesting and I thin Clifford Rose is a brilliant actor too.

They don't make good quality drama like this any more.

Just a note to say a huge thank you to UKTV drama for repeating the whole series and looking forward to the reunion at the end of May.
What a superb programme, why don't they make stuff like this anymore!
My mother (age 67) myself (42) and my daughter (16) have eagerly watched this particular repeat series and I know many others who are enjoying it immensely.
It avidly brings history to life and puts certain aspects of our present culture into
sharp contrast!
Thank you.

I might even get some video tapes, and tape all three series - as I think that I've probably taped over all the other episodes from when last time I watched the series, or I might just watch the series and get all three series on DVD, instead but either way I wll be watching Tenko again, just finished watching Elizabeth R on UK History and really enjoyed the series. Glenda Jackson gave a splendid performance as Elizabeth I.

Tenko absolutely brilliant. Will be watching from Monday 21st as only caught the end of series 3 last time it was repeated. I think the characters of Bea, Marion and Ulrica were my favourites - all struggling with different emotions - loss of power and control in Bea's case, Ulrica struggling with her love for God and her need to be "one of the women". Having recently watched the Reunion it is really fascinatiang to see how they all developed over the years. I was pleased to see that even Bea in the end seemed to be able to accept what had happened and not be bitter about her loss of career.

Great news about Tenko being shown again from the 21st April, I really love that series, UKHistory are currently showing Elizabeth R, starring Glenda Jackson which I must say I'm really enjoying at the moment, and will be sad to see that coming to an end, I wish now that I'd taped it now, but I'm sure they will no doubt show it again. Why don't they make classic drama series like this any more, but it seems that they don't have the money to make these lavish costume dramas anymore but it would be lovely if they did, doesn't everybody agree with me. I didn't see Tenko when it was first shown but when it came onto uktv History I started watching but missed quite a few episodes from the 3 series as I am nightshift most nights but I haope that I will eventually get all 3 series on dvd including the reunion, and I think Tenko is an excellent series as it gives you an insight into what the Japanese were like during the war as there are not many programmes about what had happened in these camps keep up the good work uktv history and I would also if possible like to see more of these types of programmes shown if there are available. I also watch The World at War can anyone tell me if you can get this excellent series on dvd as well

Just thought I'd let everyone know, who liked watching Tenko on UKDrama last year, well it's back again but this time on UKHistory, at 3.00 in the afternoon and then an omnibus edition at the weekend. I missed the first episode but I will most certainly be watching the series from beginning to end again, as I think it's one of the better series which the BBC showed. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Great to see the wonderful Tenko being repeated again. Watched it dilligently as a 12 year old when it was broadcast in the 1980s and it was great to see it again when you broadcast it recently. So much so, I actually dropped UKTV a line to ask if there were any plans to show the Re-union episode after the initial run had finished. It seems that "the powers that be" have been playing with the schedules again, so now, we can grab an omnibus on Saturdays, which is good news, but why - from the programming information I can see - is this only going to be 3 of the 5 episodes broadcast during the week? Also, is this going to be a complete re-broadcast INCLUDING the reunion show? Answers please! LOL

I've no idea why UKTV History, didn't show the reunion episode - linsy1 they did when it was on UK Drama. The Reunion episode is great and as usual the cast were brilliant as well and, it gives you the chance to catch up with the characters and, what they've been up to during the last five years. I thought Stephanie Cole was great as she was in the series, it was nice to see how they'd coped five years later and how their lives had changed, I really need to get the entire three series and also the Tenko Reunion as well, I really don't know why UKtv History didn't show the reunion I guess they thought that people had, seen enough as they were also showing the effects of Second World War as well, and it was coming up to Remembrance Sunday as well.

Why isnt UKTV History showing the renuion episode of Tenko?? Cry Ive loved watching the series but the last episode was a bit of a let down in comparison, and I'd have loved to have seen the renuion episode, does anyone who's seen it think its any good?

Yes there is a follow up to the series, Geoff46, it's the reunion episode but for some reason UkHistory isn't showing the reunion episode, instead they're showing the series Secret Army.

Geoff46 1235 pm The last episode of Tenko was shown on Friday 9 Nov. When they sailed to uk on the boat. Is there a follow up when they have a reunion. It seems such a dead end to an excellent series

Well it seems, that UKHistory is no longer going to show Tenko again, as from Monday next week, they're going to start showing Secret Army. I sort of like it but not as much as Tenko, as that was based on the women concerned. I might watch it but quite frankly it's not as interesting as Tenko - although the cast were impressive in that series as well, what's everyone elses opinion on Secret Army, do you all like it or not. It would be interesting to know peoples views on this series, I personally loved the comedy version Allo Allo (which was based on the series Secret Army).

UK history did not show the reunion would like to know why that was as that reunion episode was part and parcel of the third series

I'm still enjoying the Tenko series, and probably one day I'll get round to buying the entire series - including the reunion episode as well. I've also noticed that the episodes have been edited as well, in fact I'm sure we saw how Verna and Blanche died at the beginning of series three. I totally agree with some people, here, that the announcer spoils the last few seconds of the episode, I hate it so much, and it drives me mad.

Hi boo9, as far as I can see on the description, I think it does include the Reunion episode. Happy hunting Smile

Thanks for the info pooh4, I'll certainly think about going to Amazon to buy the entire box set - I don't suppose it includes the Reunion episode as well, as I would love to watch that episode as well. I remember watching this in the eighties, and normally I hate watching repeats all the time but this is an exception. It amazes me that Stephanie Cole who played Beatrice Mason, can then play a comical role as in Diana Trent (and she was only in her forties when she played that part), Louise Jameson as I remember was also in Bergerac. I just hope they keep showing this fantastic series. Smile Smile

Realy enjoyed the Reunion episode. I have found this a joy to revisit this great series. If you look on amazon in new and used the complete box set is about £55 including postage, I too will be hinting for christmas!
Has anyone found any books about the original Tenko? Has anything been writien by the lady who enspired the series? Can you help UKTV Drama?
I hope that Tenko is repeated, I know this is not the first time UKTV has done this, it was repeated about 3 years ago, but we didnt have Sky plus then and I missed so much!!

I used to love watching this series, when it was on in the eighties, and have simply loved watching the re-run of this very gripping and enjoyable series. Thank you UK Drama for showing this wonderful series starring Stephanie Cole - who is also very good as Diana Trent in Waiting For God. I am currently not working and therefore I have something to look forward to in the evenings and weekends. I will eventually get the entire series on DVD but as of yet haven't got the funds to pay for it.
