Charismatic London detective Nicky Cole is a man in trouble. After blowing the whistle on police corruption in his home town, he’s unceremoniously shipped off to Newcastle and faced with an unwanted career change.

This is 55 Degrees North, a place where things are done differently.

Stuck away from the land of the living as a night detective, he soon learns that new friends are in short supply. Only self-assured Crown Prosecution Service Lawyer, Claire Maxwell (Dirvla Kirwan), supplies any hint of friendship and his boss, DI Carter, doesn’t exactly make him feel welcome.

After a shaky start, Nicky finally strikes a balance between professional and personal happiness. But life is never easy policing the streets of the North East and his commitment to the job is tested to the limit.

The gritty culture clash cop show continues on Alibi in November with episodes from Series Two - Tuesdays at 8pm from Tuesday 17th November.

The locals are still making things difficult for Nicky, and the second series kicks off when the victim of a mugging displays strange marks on his body, which draws Nicky and Maguire into investigations of violent threats at a research centre.

With a variety of cases and an ever unravelling personal life, the series edges towards its tense climax, with Nicky’s life in serious danger.
