Dorothy L Sayers Mysteries
Saturdays at 2pm
Renowned novelist Dorothy L Sayers' trilogy of murder mysteries are brought to life in three stunning period films. An author, translator and Christian humanist, Sayers was at the height of her talent in between the two world wars, and her novels, featuring English aristocrat and amateur sleuth, Lord Peter Wimsey (complete with catchphrase, "Oh damn!") became a huge success.
In the first of three, feature-length adventures this month, Lord Peter's companion, Harriet, stumbles over a dead body and soon both of them are on the trail of a murderer. In Strong Poison, Harriet finds herself on trial for murder, and Lord Peter, enchanted by her in the courtroom, is adamant that she is innocent. He sets out to solve the mystery, and continue his romantic pursuit. Lastly, Gaudy Night sees Lord Peter propose to Harriet. Although unable to say yes she is also unable to say no, so heads to her Oxford alma mater for a bit of peace and quiet. Her relaxing break is destroyed when she finds herself in the middle of a poison-pen scandal.
