The greatest love story ever told must stimulate all the human emotions and evoke the spirit within. It must carry a message to the world which conveys that all things are connected and prove that life is eternal as is the love that created it. Only "The Meadow" can give you this. Never heard of it yet? You will soon and you can find out now if you google for The Meadow Novel.
There are occasions when the world must wait for that special love story and the timing is right. Today, when a shift in consciousness is beginning to manifest, is the perfect moment.

The Thorn Birds should defo be on there. It's great. I also recently read a trilogy of love stories written by Posie Greame Evans, The Innocent, The Exciled and The Beloved. They were amazing. Check them out if you want a great love story. There are just sooooo many. I love the one's with lotsa history in them to, esspecially old English, anywhere from medevil England to late 1800's. They make the best reads for me. Smile

Why is the Lord's name always used as if He is just a nobody. starry-eyed-dreamer? Whatever series, reality series are broadcasted, "ohmygod" always features. Does people know what they are saying and doing in using God's name? Cry Angry

I read the Diary of a Scullery Maid too, my sister gave it to me when I was going on holiday, couldn't put it down! Agreed... would definately make a good mini series, an absorbing highly addictive read... packs a dam n good punch! Develish

I was delighted to see so many of your other contributers recommend Diary of a scullery maid. As anyone who has read this outstanding novel will know, the diary is a love story that spans the decades and crosses continents and classes. It is an epic tale and ripe for a mini series of sumptuous proportions.

ronniesbairn,
That is quite the testament to the capacity of human beings to love each other in the most profound of manners. I'm convinced that the very real life experiences we share are the basis of the great art we produce. You are right. What passionate love.

Jane Austen is good but they've been done so many times. Diary of a Scullery Maid has the drama, the history but more suspense & action. A great love story but with dark undercurrents & war scenes it will keep the men intrigued too. I couldn't put the book down. Up there with Wuthering Heights I can't wait to see a series done.

'Scullery maid' is a break from the norm allright, not a mills and boon thats for sure but gripping and thought provoking none the less! dark story lines linking with vivid war scenes, it'd make a good mini series. I enjoyed it and would recommend it!

Have to agree 100% with both the above comments. I was delighted to read such positive feedback after recently reading this wonderful novel.
For all you Love Story fanatics, get hold of a copy of "The Diary of a Scullery Maid", (this is so much more than just a love story), sit back and enjoy! Brilliant.

I read "The Diary of a Scullery Maid" also recently and couldn't agree more with M. Gusto. It's not your classic boy meets girl stuff and would have to go out after the watershed but for a tale of complex relationships spanning continents and time it's a fascinating read. No cowboys whispering to each other up a mountain either.

Perhaps the greatest (and certainly the most interesting)love story of all time is that contained within the pages of "The Diary of a Scullery Maid". At the time of the Boer War, with the wealth of the aristocracy in decline,Lord & Lady Blanchford-Carter decide to augment their dwindling finances by turning part of their stately mansion into a high-class brothel for the upper echelons of society where amidst the exploitation and blackmail of young servants an unexpected and all-enduring love blossoms.

You simply can't beat Jean Pierre Jeunet's two films with Audrey Tautou - Amelie and A Very Long Engagement. Both are exquisite and heartbreaking tales

The greatest love story is surely The Thorn Birds. The unavailable is always the most attractive. Wink

My family have the best love story ever.
My parents had been married for 47 years when in 1994 my mum collapsed and was taken into hospital. My dad was already very ill by then ,with Alzeihmers.Every day my mum climbed into her wheelchair and I would take her to see her beloved hubby on another ward.
The doctors discharged mum,as they couldn`t find anything wrong with her, even after lots of tests.
Mum had nursed my dad for 6 years,no easy task when the man you married doesn`t even recognise you anymore !
One day mum and I went to visit dad as usual, and mum was stopped by one of the nurses asking how she was.I proceeded to go and sit next to my dad and gave him his usual kiss, cuddle and then sweets.Suddenly he looked over to mum and said "I like her,is she married ?"
When mum saw us both looking at her she came over, and I told her what dad had said.He then said "Are you married "
She said "Yes "
He said "Ohh no "
She said "I am married to you "
He suddenly burst out crying and said "I am a lucky lad "
Mum died within 6 weeks of that day,she had a lung cancer which had not been detected.
Dad died too ,just 9 short weeks after her.
Everyone said even though it was awful, me losing both of them,at least they will be together again.
THAT IS THE BEST LOVE STORY EVER.

I really love Wuthering Heights - the book not the film adaptations and I also love the love/hate relationship between Benedix and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing

Hi David - I do like the Leonardo di Caprio film version - it just touches that young lover thing so well. I also loved a local production done in the 90s by our brilliant theatre group (all young people brilliantly coached by Mike & Lottie Ward here in Halifax), the Actors' Workshop.

Do you have a favourite R&J TV/film adaptation WendyJay? (Or a production of the play that's stood out for you?)

I do love Romeo & Juliet, because it's great Shakespeare poetry, themes and characterisation, but most of all, because it's two young people in love, and Shakespeare's insight is that he understands the power that is first love between two young people - where no-one else really exists for them, and nothing else, because they are so in love with one another and with love itself.
