UK TV Foods new flagship show to replace GFL starts Monday 16th April.

The Market Kitchen will be hosted by Tana Ramsay and Tom Parker Bowles from London's Borough Market.

A Special Studio has been constructed at the Market for Chefs, Stall Holders and Food Producers to have their food judged by the General Public.

It will be shown on Weekdays at 12:30pm and 6pm.

I presume this means the last GFL will be shown on Friday 13th of April.

Just goes to show how wrong you can be. I always thought Friday the 13th. was unlucky. An end to the inane adulation at last.
Give the new show a chance.

Well Barshedale I don't know if I will give the new show a chance! I enjoy GFL, have done since the show and the channel started. I like the format, the presenter, the interaction with guests and the fact that the show makes me laugh while interesting me in trying new foods and recipes.

I live in Carfin, what relevance has London Borough Market got to me? And the presenters of the new show aren't really a draw for me. Ah well, I've got plenty of other channels to watch on Sky, and loads of other things to do with my time.

Best wishes to Jeni, the chefs and everyone who's made GFL such fun to watch over the years.

Paul - I too have seen all the publicity for the new show and while it does all say that it is being made in Borough Market, a little bird tells me that it's actually being made nowhere near Borough Market. I suppose time will tell!

What a BIG mistake UKtv Food is making!

This is the best daytime tv programme - it gives most of 'prime-time' tv a run for its money too!

I can't believe you're getting rid of it.

I doubt very much that I'll be watching its replacement - looks like a London-based programme for Londoners!

GFL is (was!) for everyone - bring back Jeni and the whole team...

(I give the replacement two months before it's pulled off air...)

Where are you getting all this rubbish about it being london based! Sockpuppet has heard the same as me, apparently the show is going to be studio based, with outside broadcasts to markets around the country, not just London. I really liked GFL too, and I also like using this fantastic website and message board, the people here are great. However it saddens me to find out just how many of you won't open your minds to something new, the show hasn't even started yet!!!!!! Give it a chance at least!!!! Angry

I am not saying I won't give it a chance. What I and others are saying is that it is a bad idea to ditch the flagship show.

I shall miss GFL, hugely! I do agree, however, that the replacement show should be given a chance to prove its worth, then we can compare like with like, objectively.

Regarding the apparent "London bias" of the new show, I do not live in a big city and have never had access anyway to many of the more-exotic ingredients featured regularly on GFL.

I also share the sense of loss regarding Jeni's departure from the scene. She is the ultimate professional in every sense and has no need for dependence on any food show, either now or in the future. Thank you, Jeni!

One final point, if I may. . . I do hope that the GFL recipes will continue to be made available on the UKTV Food website - either as GLF-archived items or under the appropriate "Chef" link. If not, my dinner party success rate will plummet alarmingly!

Best wishes to all who have been involved in presenting GFL to its many loyal fans.

"Great Scot". Smile

I did note tonight Jeni made reference for the 1st time that the programme was ending in 3 weeks on GFL Extra.

I Just wonder, I maybe wrong is this going to be a seasonal thing.

Where they have 1 series running Spring/Summer and the other running Autumn/Winter.

I maybe barking up the wrong tree but this scenario has not been considered.

In response to the post (further up) which says:

"...However it saddens me to find out just how many of you won't open your minds to something new, the show hasn't even started yet!!!!!! Give it a chance at least!!!! "

I'm not against anything new - I welcome new programmes, but not when they replace the best one on UKtv Food!

I too heard for the first time last night that Jenni and the GFL team are bidding us a fairwell. I am so saddened to hear that my favourite programme on SKY will soon be no longer. I am a big foody fan and as much as I will miss the lovely, bubbly and very talented presenter Jenni I am sure UKTV has not seen the last of her!!
Jenni and the team I wish you all the success and happiness in the future.

Tana Ramsay, do I not recall Gordon saying she can't cook???, I too am not against new stuff but GFL is a fantastic programme and Jeni is the lifeblood, she initially irritated the hell out of me but I too grew to love her sense of humour and her game for anything attitude, a real woman who loves real food, now what will we get more but money into the Ramsay pension fund, yea I too am very narked. Blurgh why can't they get rid of some of the repeats and have the new and keep the tried and tested.

WOW there are some unhappy people around because of this decision. No one can make us happy like jen i know ive watched the show almost for 5 years now it was on when i was putting up the xmas tree, on my birthday and sad days and happy days but the one thing jen always brought to the table(so to speak!!) was light happiness sometimes naughty jokes and great outfits! Jen was always something bright and happy to look forward to. Its not that i cant accept change but when something isnt broken sure as hell dont try to fix it! xxx caz xxx

Well, I have to agree with the majority here. I will miss GFL - it has formed part of my regular viewing since it started. Jeni is a natural, a great interviewer and a scream to boot.

I will give the new show a chance though I have to say that I do not like Tom Parker Bowles' food section in the Daily Mails weekend supplements - he comes across as too full of himself so I hope that will not transfer to the small screen.

A suggestion to UKTV food? Why not put the new show on at lunchtime and 10pm and continue GFL on the teatime slot? Then after a month let us vote on which we prefer. Too simple? Probably.

I will also echo a request from another member - PLEASE do not take away the GFL recipe section. I use it on a regular basis!

I hope UKTV Food will reconsider the axing of GFL but for the next 2.5 weeks I had better get the video set!
