Confused I always wondered why Jennie Barnett looked wider than she possibly is until I realised it was because you do not broadcast in widescreen. My TV automatically fills the screen so I always feel there is something not quite right with the proportions of the picture. I'm sure I would want to watch more UKTV if you broadcast in the format most people are now watching in.

PLEASE broadcast 16:9 programmes in widescreen - it will make UKTV channels infinately more watchable.. Smile

Especially with the amount of programming now being produced in native widescreen format they look a lot better that way rather than being cropped down to 4:3 for playout.

It does get me annoyed when having seen something like Planet Earth or the new Doctor Who's on BBC channels, and then catch up with them a few months later on UKTV to see them looking worse after being zoomed in as a Centre Cut version on an archaic playout method.

A good policy to adopt would be that any 16:9 material gets played out as 16:9, but archieve stuff, such as Last of the Summer Wine or Juliet Bravo stays as 4:3, with a ratio switch being used - or pillarboxing.

Neither do I. Do I detect a change in attitude at UKTV. Maybe 16:9 AND no talking over end credits?

And even, continuity announcers NOT trying to be funnier than the programmes (and failing miserably)?!

Mad I find it hard to believe that it's 2007, we're in the throes of analogue switchoff and UKTV channels don't transmit true 16:9 format. What will happen when analogue TV is turned off and digital rules the TV airwaves? Will there be a change of plan and UKTV channels will go FULL 16:9?

Anything that's done in 16:9 AND the commercial breaks SHOULD BE 16:9. Old archive stuff that isn't 16:9 should be shown in 4:3 pillarbox format.
