Use of props (dummy)

Hi there!

I'm just after your thoughts on the use of props! My little one has no idea how to sleep without a pacifier. There was a time when I had to stand by her for ages and keep giving it back to her every time it fell out of her mouth to help her go to sleep. Now that she is six months old, she is pretty much able to pop it back in herself. I only ever give her the dummy at sleep times (and sometimes in the car seat which she hates!). However I am conscious the poor little babe has no idea how to sleep without it. Should I allow this to continue for now or is it time to go cold turkey and implement controlled crying until she learns to settle herself? I was thinking of waiting until she has just 1 sleep a day before getting rid of it to my own life a little easier as at the moment she can have up to 4 short naps a day! I do have to give it to her most nights at least once too...

Hi hkmk
This is a tricky one! We'll ask our Parenting Team for some advice - we'll send your question on to them and find out what they suggest. We'll let you know when their tips are published.
In the meantime, check out our features on looking after young children in the new Parenting Zone (under Me + My Baby).
Good luck,
The UKTV Style Team.
