Hi, My daughter is 23months old, and washing her hair is a nightmare,, this started about 6 months ago, for no apparent reason...the minute you start putting water on her hair, even though it does not go in her eyes,,,she screams and cries and tries getting out the bath,,,every time I need to wash her hair, I dread it,,I have tried all sort,,letting her wash a dolls hair while I do hers,,putting a hair visor on her head,,,tried making it fun, let her wash her hair,,,none of this has worked,,it is an absolute nightmare, and she has alot of hair,,,in the last week, she has suddenly started crying when I put her in the bath, and wants to get out,,I quickly distract her and she starts playing with her toys,,but this could be due to her thinking she is getting her hair washed,,I have left washing her hair for a while, until necessary, but she still goes MAD...Any advice on how I can get her to let me wash her hair without the dilema will be great..
Thanks
Shadrienne
xx

Has she seen you wash your hair? Could she wash it in the shower or the sink? A bath is a big slippery place for a 2 yr old if she suddenly can't see - and she would close her eyes instinctively against water whether it stung or not. You could try using a lot less water in the bath to help her feel more secure, but then the whole bath thing would need to be over more quickly in order to stay warm. Very good idea of yours to leave it for a bit.

I don't suppose you're planning a trip to a swimming pool anytime soon? Her hair would get wet then and she might associate it more with fun.

Hi Shadrienne
I'm going through exactly the same thing at the moment with my little two year old boy - he's generally very chirpy until we try and give him a bath as he hates having his hair washed so much. Let's ask our Parenting Team for some advice - I'll send this dilemma on to them and we'll find out what the experts suggest. We'll let you know when their tips are published.
In the meantime, check out our features on looking after young children in the new Parenting Zone (under Me + My Baby).
Good luck,
The UKTV Style Team.
