hi everyone my living room has been magnolia for 3yrs now, blue carpet, black suit, blue curtains, can you recommend another colour for the walls taking in mind i have a cream tiled fire place living flame fire thanks

Linda Barker did a blue room on changing rooms ages ago now and it looked really good. She painted horizontal lines around the room in different shades of blue (some colourwashed as well) and silver. If you do a search online you would probably be able to see a picture of it.

When I moved into my house the whole place was done in magnolia and I have used paint pots from d.i.y stores they are only about 99p a pot and if you mix them with with 8 parts of water and use a natural sponge or a rag or even an old brush with most of the bristles missing and paint over the magnolia with a different colour I have used quite a dark cream in one room for a subtle effect and terracotta and then blue over the top in another room you can create quite a good effect. If you get a piece of cardboard you could paint that with the paintpots which will give you some ideas. Hope this helps.

If you are thinking blue I wouldnt go too dark as with the carpet and suite it might make it feel cold...

You could try pale lavender or palest yellow (cream with a hint of yellow in it)... if you look at the Dulux Urban range there are colours there which you can use a topcoat glaze to lift a feature wall... amathist used over lavender or pale blue gives an amazing sheen and if the light travels around your room changes colour as it goes so...

It could be that a top glaze might work over the magnolia...

or you could always buy sum throws for your black sofas? lilac throws? magnolia? lol
it would lighten up the room considerably, as i imagine a black suite would make the room appear quite dark? :D Gold throws would b nice
