Hi

I have a beautiful flat with enormous sash windows into each room. Unfortunately, they are so big that I feel quite 'on display' to people in the street (even though my flat is on second and third floors).

There's no platform for window boxes outside and my fingers are far from green anyway. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might put on the windows to obscure the view into my rooms without having to actually change the glass panes?

Thanks so much!

Elizabeth - try paper blinds. I've got exactly the same dilema but I didn't want anything heavy blocking the light from the windows. White paper blinds let plenty of light through and you can roll them up easily, plus they look really dramatic at night when you get the shadows from the street slanting across them (and they're relatively cheap!).

Layers of muslin would look lovely both from inside the room and from outside, and for privacy at night you could add blinds.

Have you thought about glass paint? You could try for a new-agey stained glass effect?

Hi

Have you thought about using Crown self adhesive vinyl? It's very similar to the old style fabulon stuff that used to be all the rage...but it now comes in a great range..

There are several which give the appearance of etched glass (varying designs) and some lovely stained and leaded glass look ones in lots of colours and patterns. Its easy to apply and looks great. I live in an end terrace where a side window looked straight out onto the pavement, I used the etched glass one and dressed the window with yards of muslin...and if I say so myself, it looks fantastic. You still get all the light, but retain your privacy.

Good Luck.

My son and daughter in laws' windows are double glazed. But who on earth will actually bother to repair them? They live in North London (Mill Hill) and have tried to contact 'Repairs to double glazing' firms, but without success. The problem is that the seal around the window needs replacing in the lounge window and they want to get it sorted out before the full onset of winter and also because the condensation is now between the two panes of glass. They don't need a new window only a repair and it seems no-one is interested. Is there anyone out there who can help?

Hi UKStyle User,

If you log on it helps but in the meantime - try a company called Smashingwindows.com - they advertise as being specialists in replacing the windows not the frames and so will be able to help.
