Its got to be Real Tree everytime!

When I was growing up at home we always always has a Real Christmas Tree, Christmas isn't Christmas without one!

I still have a Real Tree now for my 4 Children. You can't beat the lovely fragrant smell & the look of a real tree. We don't go for the designer look ~ it has to be traditional ad-hoc decoration which my children love to do! Every year its up to them to decorate the tree how they would like it & this includes all the lovely decorations made by them. We have newly made ones each year by my 6 & 3 yr olds from Nusery or School & we have all the old ones made by my 2 daughters who are now 15 & 14 Yrs, which were made when they were at Nursey/infant school. They all get lovely looked after & packed away the end of Christmas ready for the next year!

A Real Christmas tree is an all time favourite in our house & always will be ~ I hope our tradtion carry's on through the generations.

We all Love Christmas & our Real Tree.........

Hi all,

I do agree - but I have a problem - two cats... Daisy the youngest would spend all her time climbing it - or hiding under it...

And they could both decide to do their does in the pot (sorry)

So I have to have an artificial one - for convenience... but I agree it is just not the same as the real thing.

Hi,
I'm afraid I have not changed my opinion from last year. It's back into the loft again this year to get out the imitation Christmas Tree. Sorry, but once it is decorated there is no difference apart from the smell (I could always climb up one of my Scotch Pines and have a sniff!) and the falling needles (don't I have enough falling from the 30 Scotch Pines?).
Mind you, will there come a time when I am too old to climb up into the loft (and back again, of course)? Maybe then I will reconsider my decision.
Seasons greeting to you all. No more moaning until next year, please. (Wink).
P.S. I think I, or someone else perhaps, has reset my computer so that I cannot select Smilies anymore. (Tears)
Cheers

Hi Les,

And a Merry Christmas to you as well.

You could always spray a few of your pine cones to add to the tree for that authenic pine smell.

And I dont thin the smilies have worked for some little time now.

In fact a lot of things on this new site only work when they want to and seems a lot more trouble that its worth...

Hi everyone,

The lovely Sven makes a very good point in the real - fake debate, regarding the environmental issues. Plastic trees do not degrade or replenish the soil through decomposition and will be with us into the next millenium. I'm ashamed to say that mine will be one of them!!

I totally understand the need for certain people to use fake trees, for many reasons. Unfortunately I fell into the lazy, it's much easier to get it out of the box category! After reading Sven's statement however, I have been shamed into donating my fake tree to the local cottage hospital and I shall be buying real from now on!!

Please don't think I'm making any judgements on anyone else though, there are many good and valid reasons for needing fake trees! I just couldn't justify it for myself.

Happy Christmas to you all and congratulations on a wonderful message board. I have only just discovered it and am really enjoying it!

I shall be working Christmas Day and Boxing day, so spare a thought for me whilst you're tucking into your mince pies!!!

Regards,
Rebecca,x.

Hi, the lovely Rebecca,x.,
I'm afraid that Sven is very much biased towards the Trees for obvious reasons.
However, after doing my back in, a few years ago, trying to carefully move the real tree outside the house (once Christmas was over), I'm afraid I have to stick with my perhaps, feeble excuse.
I have quite an extended Christmas holiday this year but my thoughts will be with you and all involved with the UKtvstyle message Board - my Christmas boxes must go to Angie and Tricia and not forgetting the UKTVStyle Team (xxx)

Hi all,

Well the artificial tree is up and looking stunning. I have had to weigh it down as it was not very stable but as yet (touch wood) Daisy has done nothing more than play with the babbles at the bottom - oh and tried to eat them...

I think if I had a real tree she would try to leave me a present rather than use the litter tray... Angry But for her this is going to be so exciting - as she loves wrapping paper, boxes and all ther trappings... she spent ages last night curled up inside a plastic bag - quite content - had to be careful to remember not to treat on her as she was well hidden.

As for this debate... I would love to have a real tree - may go for a small one next year - but some bring me up in a big rash if I brush up against them - like the Conifer at the bottom of the garden - which I would remove if they were not a feature of the estate - i.e. each house got one as part of the landscaping scheme... lots have been removed...

So maybe the answer is to run a outdoor extension down there and to decorate it?.

Have a great festive season and a wonderful 2005

Angela
