I was watching a bathroom being renovated on Our Home this week. The woman on the programme did three paintings on canvas coated with some kind of plaster. After she coated them in the plaster, she painted the canvases and then dry-brushed them with gold artists' paint . Does anyone happen to know specifically what items or products she used to get this effect? I cannot find the project anywhere on this site and am dying to try this out myself.

i've had a bash at this and it looks pretty good........but it's pretty fragile! it's ready made adhesive i've used tile adhesive and used a opalescent paint. i bought the canvases from au natural for £4 each it's a good idea to use latex gloves cause it's pretty messy but theraputic all the same
good luck

Hi Debbie,

I am not sure if the tile adhesive will last... I suggest that you seal your painting with tile sealant and hope for the best...

I suspect that she used plaster of paris go give the canvas a textured feel... try that next time...

hiya, also you can get bandage material coated with plaster of paris - called 'Mod Rock', it will also give you some texture as long as you dont smooth it over too much.

or buy ready-prepared canvases (check out 'The Works' if you have one for cheap canvases) and use paint to 'stick' pieces of material/gause/ribbon etc for texture. (paint over it to keep it there!! and to hide the colour if it dosent go!!)

hope this helps
