Hi

Bathroom is 8'x8', high ceilings, the bathroom suite is lilac, somewhere between the 2 colours used on this page. I can't afford a new suite, but can finally afford to replace the gastly pinker than pinkly pink tiles that the bathroom came with (it was tiled in these plain tiles from top to bottom!). The question is what colour goes with lilac!!

Thanks, Julia

I'd go for huge white tiles and maybe a border at 'dado' height and/or some accent tiles. Or maybe huge marble look with a faint blue/lilac vein. Keep spares in case one day you can afford a new suite but want to keep the tiles the same

Yes, I see that. Our house has large rooms and I am a particular fan of 'large' tiles. I used fairly big ones in my black and white bathroom I certainly feel that they have many advantages not the least of which is being quicker to lay and quicker to grout!! My parents have reservations on picking a tile that is too huge in case the wall is not perfectly flat once we've got the old ones off, but I'd have thought that providing you laid them on a fair old dollop of tile cement that this would iron out any uneveness. Any comments? Also, I did wonder about predominantly white perhaps accented with a dado style border maybe in darker purple for contrast, but wondered if that might be too stark. I do like the idea of the marble effect with a lilac vein though. Cheers Julia

Big Grin Hello - Yes I agree that white tiles are going to be your best bet. How about accenting with some glass tiles -try Original Style -they do them in some really great colours including at least one purple. Instead of using them as a dado which is the obvious thing to do why not fix them in a double vertical line in various places eg to one side of the basin and in the shower area or towards one end of the bath. I have done this for several clients and it looks really smart. Use dark purple towels and accessories to bring it all together or raspberry red to contrast and create a "berry coloured bathroom. ( makes a great change from all those blue and aqua bathrooms!!)

It's funny that you should mention the accenting glass tiles. I've really been admiring these in the local tile shops. Their displays do all sort of things with them (though I must say the vertical stripes are yet another different idea), I even saw a colour range in them that worked like a bar code along the wall! I love the idea of 'berries' I'm going to have a root round to see if I can find something in raspberry red and in purple to go and drop in the bath to see the effect.

The big problem is deciding what matches/goes with the suite. It's such an awkward colour to get exactly right. I think something like a purple will work, but even then its a case for find the exactly right purple At the moment I'm carting the cistern lid round with me to the shops and hoping I don't drop it!! Also, I think the fact that it is still surrounded by the old pink tiles its not easy to imagine a different colour with it - perhaps I ought to set to and start knocking the old ones off, then maybe I'll more clearly get a feel for the colour of the suite. Mind you I think I'd better find the DIY site as I've never knocked off tiles before, I also want some advice on showers to. Will be back. Thanks everyone

you are so lucky, ive looked everywhere for a lilac suite and cant find one anywhere, if i were you id get grey tiles and towels as they are so much easier to find than lilac and would go beautifully, if you ever want to get rid of your suite let me know, lol
