Do any of you have any ideas for really nice salads that are a bit different from the normal fare.

I love salads but I've reached a bit of a brick wall as far as inspiration is concerned.

Thanks

Just call me the salad king!
I love salds with artichokes, avocado and rocket, laced with loads of chopped almonds.
Or if you fancy something meatier, warm chicken, olives, rocket and sun-dried tomatoes is really tasty!

You could try growing your own cut and come again type - there are many mixed seed versions on the market so it is just a matter of choise - may not be enough time to grow one this year though...

However, you could try growing a crop in one of those underbed stores - with wheels so you could move it around the garden and out of sight of visitors if necessary - the lid protects the crop from birds and slugs etc. until it gets going... I haven't had enough time to do one this year... but will probably do so next... the idea of going out and picking a few leaves sounds wonderful to me...

You should also try growing Nastursums - you can eat both the young leaves and the flowers... use borage flowers (but not the yellow bit, just the blue) and remember to add some raw vegetables for crunch... try sprouting your own beans to add as well not forgetting the old fav of mustard and cress..

Here's to tasty salads...

Oh and why not grow your own new potatoes?. I tried for the first time - really easy to do...

I grow sorrel. A few leaves shredded into a salad gives it a wonderful tang.

You could also try experimenting with dressings. One of my favourites is balsamic vinegar and chilli flavoured olive oil with a splash of walnut oil for oomph.

Hi Shirley. Have you tried adding fresh fruit to your salads? Chopped apple, apricot, strawberries - anything to give it a zing. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for that added crunch too.Salads shouldn't be restriced to just lettuce and tomatoes. A squirt of fresh lime is an alternative to vinegar too. Happy munching! :D
