I have just entered the competition after visiting the site for the first time. I was really pleased when I realised that there was a website for uk style, because I am forever watching it at the moment especially as I am "in between jobs". My bedroom is the problem it is so boring, white papered walls - was my grandparents house and as you can imagine, still bland even though have been here quite a few years.

Don't refer to those white walls as bland! Think positive...a whole blank canvas for you to make your mark upon. As you're 'between jobs' take the cheap option of emulsion paints. I've found some of my best paint buys in the 'returns' section of my local B & Q., you'll find lots of colours, invariably Dulux, where the paint mixing machine has created colours that the more faint hearted of the population are unable to live with. These 'returns' are usually slashed in price, the thing to remember is to make sure you have enough to complete your project, but if you just want to do a feature wall within a room, their ideal.
Good Luck

Hi Shaz. I agree with the previous reply to your dilemma. I couldn't think os a bette colour to be "stuck" with. You can do anything with white. How big's your room? How about choosing a really funky colour and make a feature out of the window wall and then "dress" your window with stunning curtains to go with the colour you've chosen. that way you will have made a feature out of the whole room by only colouring one wall. On the other walls hang some pictures and a mirror to reflect your masterpiece window. Good luck. Jill :D

You could do wonders with plain white walls you are so lucky to have such a blank canvas to work with. You can colourwash a whole room with one tester pot (1 each) and a bottle of scumble glaze. And the paint mixing machines do sample pots of any of there 1600 colours in a little tin for 2. My shed is full of these for colourwashing, stencilling etc. You could buy a couple of these tins in different shades of one colour and paint panels on the walls for a modern look. The possibilities are endless! Good luck.

how about a romantic bedroom like a trailing ivy coronet with a sweeping bed drape and satin cushions, stencilled stars on ceiling, avoid heavy florals and frills, and keep the backdrop pale and fairly plain, with lots of pure white, or misty greys and creams. the bed is the centre piece, dress it up, candles, lamps all add to the feel, doves stencilled on wall.
God im such a romantic, hope this was a help.

Hi Shaz
you have a good blank canvas to start with, I am in the process of redecorating, remodelling and plastering my home it might sound great but I would sooner have a blank canvas than a building site, I think personally that nice calming colours such as baby blue and pale lilacs, or soft pinks and creams are best with bold colours to accessorise if you think this is to washed out and boring, bedrooms need to be calm and relaxing, bold colours on the walls could be negative and make you anxious before you go to bed. good look with your project.
