I'm 6 months pregnant with my first child and I'm looking to get my house re-decorated before the baby arrives. In a few of my rooms I have artex on the walls and I wondered what the easiest and cheapest way to remove it was. Any suggestions would be wonderful. Cheers!

I think you will find that there has been previous messages on this and from what I can remember it is not easy to do... Watching house doctor over the weekend, I saw them replace the artex with more artex but of a smoother nature.

I am interested myself as I have artex in the downstairs loo, kitchen and the bathroom... It is not ideal in the kitchen as it makes the walls very difficult to clean.

Is any of it in areas where you could hide it?. For instance under aniglypta paper and a dado? or tongue and groove panelling and a dado... that would leave you with a smaller area to cope with - which could be tackled at a later date. I quite like the look of a Wicke's product which looks like panelling which you can get to go upstairs as well - all I need is a "man about the house" capable of doing such things...

I spent the whole weekend removing artex from my bathroom walls. I scraped off all the rough uneven artex (with a wallpaper scraper) then sanded the walls and put a coat of finishing plaster on it. I then used an all purpose wall primer followed by a coat of paint. It looks fab and well worth the hard work, money and time.
Alternatively you can use a wallpaper steamer.

I gave up trying to remove Artex from a ceiling once, it was so difficult I had to have the room over boarded. I think on a wall the job would be much easier and the results well worth it if you can make a good job of it.....good luck
