did anyone notice that he spells his name with two 'L's? everyone here has only one. i thought it was a spelling mistake by a junior title-writer, but it was spelt that way on 2 other programmes i saw.

hiya, if you want to avoid brush strokes showing, paint normally, covering the area, best to do a small area, then lightly brush diagonally over the same place, then lightly brush straight again, it really does work, especially on gloss or thicker paint, as there is more 'give' to it, and the ridges run into each other better, if that makes sense!! lol. does work on other paints, but work quickly and do small areas at a time
good luck

hi Kazzy, how about those plastic hooks that stick onto tile in the kitchen? not the suction cup ones, but the ones you hang tea towels etc.. on. if the fabric isnt too heavy, you could just use the sticky pad that comes with it, or use no-nails type stuff to stick it on properly. use small strips of the same or contrasting (if its to be seen) fabric to loop round and hang onto the hooks, or sew on the unseen side to create an unbroken look. try DIY stores or those little corner shops that seem to have everything!! hope this helps!!

hi, have you tried the yellow pages? there might be a professional company that knows the place to get the veneers, or even supply you themselves. hope this helps!!

hi claire, hope you are still reading the boards! you can tack the glued boards to the wall with long nails, leaving the ends sticking out then when the glue is dry, remove the nails and fill the holes. hope this isnt too late!!

hi, you could also try that 'Garden Claw' that is on tv, also in hardware stores like Robert Dyas stores. the Gold version has an extendable handle, and there is a small hand held one for pots. hope this helps!

hi, tile paint is made to withstand water, but not harsh scrubbing. you could use tile primer then oil base gloss over the top, which would stand the water, but again, no scrubbing!! just a wipe down to remove any soap/dirt residue, no harsh abrasive cleaners either.

hiya, you could always go the long way round and paint silver then a few coats of hardwearing oil based varnish, make sure you ventilate the room, and no treading on it before its dry!!!

me again! had to post twice, i forgot the colours you had already used!
how about a warm light terracotta, not quite peachy, then if you were going to use a paint & grain, get a cream or light green coloured on to compliment the terracotta and the colours of the rooms leading from the hall.
i know you said you didnt want to use any of the colours twice, but if you use small touches of the colours that are in the rooms leading from the hall, maybe a picture frame or a bunch of flowers with them all in, it will compliment the rooms, without ruining your overall minimalist look.
hope this has been of some help!

hiya, if papering is too hard, panelling will be near impossible!! how about painting the whole wall in a base colour, then using one of those 'paint & grain' combo products, you can easily create the panels. if you are creative, you could mark out the panels with a recess, and add shadows and light, following where the natural light from any windows and doors would be. sounds complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it will be like second nature to you!

hiya, have a look on the internet for the DIY stores that are having a sale on their paint, and use their own brand stuff, it tends to be a tad cheaper. If you choose a neutral colour, bring in some jazz with accessories. look for accessories in markets, corner shops, pound shops etc..
If you want colour, you can still accessorise, with diffrent shades of the same colour, or harmonious/contrasting colours.
if you are not too attached to chocolate, how about asking everyone or DIY vouchers instead of easter eggs? you'll save your teeth, and get a nice room into the barain!! lol
hope this is of some help, happy decorating!! Riah

hi there, wavy tiles sound interesting!!!
is there no info on the pack? or from the place you bought them?
or, last resort, you could make your own spacers, use cardboard, take 4 tiles, place them over the cardboard with the right spacing, and draw round the corners. then cut out as many as you need!!! could prove a good task to keep hubby out of the way!! lol, maybe he will appreciate the finished effect more!! dont forget to use the first one as a template so the rest are the same size. ood luck, and let us know how it comes out!!

hi, what kind of cupboards are they? Wood,Melamine? if its wood, strip old finish and any paint will go on. Varnish after. Melamine needs a primer to help the paint stick, but thee is a product called ESP, (easy surface preparation) that you just wipe on and wipe off 5 minutes later. you'll have to see if it can be used on your type of cupboards. or there are paints with primer in them already, but not alot of colour choices.
why do you not want to prime? if its the time, there are water based primers available, which dry quite quickly. you can then either usr an oil based paint over them, which wouldn't need a varnish, or emulsion, which has the best range of colours, but you would need a few coats of varnish.
if your cupboards are flat, you could use sticky backed plastic, there are lots of desigs nowdays, or you could paint a card the size of your door in te colour/pattern you want, cover with clear sticky plastic or varnish and stick onto the doors.
hope this hasn't put you off!!

hi, have you tried the DIY stores, and places like MFI. I think your best bet would be the DIY stores, as some of them have ranges you can pick individual pieces, rather than having to buy a whole new kitchen! have a look on the websites, to save your feet!! also try entering stainless steel round dish drainer into a search engine and see what it comes up with. hope this helps!

hi all, just found this post again, and it made me smile! saying I am fab!!
anyway, i was soooo lookin forward to the refurbishment, but it is March now, and still waiting!!! I went to a open day the association put on, in august (ish), and they said it wont go ahead now till November this year!! the contractors said they were ready to start in July, but the council was dragging its heels sorting out the transfer and all the voting that had to go on, but thats all done now. still, i wonder what will hold up the refurbishment this time round, its all going smoothly so far, so something has to happen!! anyway, thats my news! see you all later. bbbbbbyyyyeeeee

spray adhesive would be good for sticking wallpaper on it, just give the paper a good coat, making sure you get the edges and corners, and stick it to the units. when you are fed up with one, or it gets worn, simply replace!!
make sure you only coat one surace, or its stuck for good!! (make sure you read instructions to see if this applies).
have fun!!

hiya, i seem to remember a while ago a program with Big Brother's Craig on. the kitchen was terracotta tiled, with bad grout and a few cracks, so they mixed a new grout the same colour as the tiles and it filled in the cracks (after removing the old grout). i didn't think much of the grout lines, but it worked on the cracks. maybe this could be a short term answer, materials should be available from DIY stores. hope this helps!

hello all, has anyone got any idea how the new child tax credits work? i thought it was a payment to me, but its a discount on tax paid, so i am totally confused!!! i have applied but have not heard anything yet, and cant find any phone number or anything to contact them!!
also, about the funding for three year olds, i have been told i would only have to pay £2 per day, and the funding would cover the other £34 (!!!) per day, but now i have been told that it will only cover half of the weekly rate, and be paid every couple of months. so, if anyone is getting either funding, please help me!!!!
thanx. Riah

i'd like to have an all-in-house buisiness, with carpenters, builders, decorators, the whole package in one place, to cut down on the sub-contracting costs!!! intheory its a good idea, but if it will work in practice i'll have to wait and see!!!

I met Zoe Wannamaker when i was in 2nd year of secondary school, we were doing a stylised version of A Midsummer Nights Dream, set to 'Match of the day' theme music!! lol, was quite a sight (us, not Zoe!!!) we had pamphlets printed with our school info, and it took me ages to find a pen, then in the end i got a marker, but it didnt stick to the surface of the pamphlet!! haven't the foggiest what happened to it tho'!!! the play was quite funny, we only did part of it, but it was the bit with the slanging match between the 2 women (cant remember names!!), and every time one called the other a name, a group of fairies threw a ball to her, which she kicked to the other one (who missed it) then another group of fairies stood up with placards with the first womans name on it, and cheered!!! (i said it was a sight!!) oh, and i played Oberon, the Fairy King (it was an all-girls school), i had two lines, and one of my supposed fairy henchmen nicked one of them!! I have never forgiven her!!! lol. dont know what Mrs Wannamaker made of it tho, we never were told!!!
