I would love the team to visit my house, after having my baby I seem to have run out of steam to do my house up and need to tackle the kitchen, so if they ever want to come to sunny eastbourne my kitchen would be ready and willing!!!! Smile

I'd love them to come over here - but the homes over in the USA are timber framed and easily demolished/rebuilt. Here is mostly brick-built with masses of building regulations. It would probably take 7 months, not 7 days!! Smile Big Grin

We can help, builders and designers, but it's not cheap doing it properly. Is Britain up for it.
If anyone's interested in getting it started contact me.

Of course we're up for it (see my previous posts) It's hard finding a programme maker that wants to take on an idea and perhaps we should have a forum just for sensible ideas. Yes it would be fantastic to have an Extreme Makeover Home Edition but deep down most people would be ecstatic just to have a home on land they could call their own. The problem starts when programmes like Extreme go mainstream and everyone and their partner wants to be featured. At least us loyal viewers should get first crack ha! Big Grin

They should absolutely come to the UK. We should be allowed the whole package though, and get Ty and the gang to come. Not like Queer Eye, when they ruined the concept by using really bad english guys.

P.S Do you think they would let me stay behind if they came to my house? Tongue

The more I think about it, I really, really think they should do a remake of House of the Future (1976) Technology has grown by so much in nearly 30 years and the UK needs new designs that conserve resources whilst being attractive and practical. PLEASE UKSTYLE, PLEASE COMMISSION A NEW SERIES THAT EXPLORES ENERGY AND MATERIAL CONSERVATION. I'll volunteer my ideas and enthusiasm Big Grin Wink Cheeky

Thinking about it, the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team can't come to your house if it's a semi-detatched... Cry so anyone who's got a detatched house and they own it themselves, consider yourself well lucky!!!!!! Frown Roll Eyes Frown

My twin sister deserves it. She nursed her husband with Huntingdons for 10 years til he died and then was diagnosed with a blood disorder that made her weak and unable to do a great deal - certainly not diy. She now spends her time helping others in the situation she and her husband were in and is so generous with her time and experiences of what she went through. My husband and I do what we can - but an Extreme Makeover would change the world for her. Smile

I feel that we could use that over here there are many homes, hospitals, poeple who care for loved ones, old peoples homes all need there help. They change peoples lives help them move forward to the future, I am amazed at how much they do and would love to help out. What they do is amazing and the people they help are not charged if only we could have something like that here. But I believe that is wishful thinking we seem to charge people to help them which I think ruins it. There are only probably a couple of programs that don't but of course I could be wrong. We can raise money for charities all over the world and the UK. Something like Home Makeover people would be able to see something good happen to people that need as in the person who posted above me Nicholac see your twin sisters sounds amazing and wish that she could get the help.

I am a proud brit but at times I am ashamed of us all.

But I am a proud brit through and through.

I don't need the help but there are many people out there who do. Whose lives it would make the world of difference.

It would be wonderful for extreme makeover to come here, but we have to think reality here, in USA houses are made so differently, in UK, we have brick built houses, and alot of those either terrace or semi-detached. I'm a Mum with kidney problems, in and out of hospital all the time and trying to care for my 2 daughters alone whilst ill, but I count myself very lucky compared to some of the families extreme makeover have helped, of course I'd love an extreme makeover but there are more deserving people out there than myself. So I will continue to enjoy watching my favourite tv show help others.

Big Grin I think it's geat to see a man who's not afraid to show his emotions, I must admit the programme has caused me to shed a few tears too. Keep up the great work, good luck.

I just love this show, when the show is about to start the ringer on the phone get's switched off and nobody get's over the doorstep. If the team ever do visist the uk, I would love them to give my mum a visit. I know everybody's mum is the best in the world but my mum really is one in a million, she's been through so much in her life and never complains and just get's on with it. If the extreme team look up this chat room, I want to say a big hello and get your skates on and get over here quick. Tongue

Big Grin I think they should visit Ireland, I know many of you would be saying, Why? What for@ but people in I reland have the same problems as people in Britain and america etc...etc. It may not be a major country but it does have the same people with the same need and problems.
EMHE do such a wonderful job and i hope they realise what they actually mean to the families who they Help. Smile

Frown Lets get REAL about this. What company in UK would donate to such a show as Extreme makeover, who would give enough money to makeover a room let alone a house? Many people have said that many of our houses are made of bricks so cannot be pulled down, so why cant they re-do the inside completely like they did for the 2 firemen, that would work here in UK and in beautiful Ireland. I agree with a few points, already said, It's Extreme Makeover so there is no need to pull houses down. That solves the slightly diffrent building regs side of it, and i'm sorry but the only way to do it is with the whole and original gang, otherwise it's not EMHE is it.

Love it more please, not that bothered where it is, as long as i get my weekly dose. Preston and Paul would have to be in it thats a must, i love those guys.

It wouldn't be building regs which would kill the programme in this country - in would be the need to get planning permission - applying at least 8 weeks the start just to be sure of getting it in time AND also having to notify the owners.

Remember what happened to Ground Force twice - once they were working in a Conservation Area and were stopped, admittedly only for a few hours, and also because of proposed tree works... but the real culprits were Lawrence L Bowen et al in Home Front inside out - where they were knocking all sorts of **** out of a listed building and were so surprised (and not a little annoyed) when they got stopped... although the Council did rush permission through in the end, it delayed them a week...

But we do not have small houses on large plots, we seem to have large houses on small plots - so they would have to go down and up - both of which require permission (other than for very small amounts of extra space)...

Programmes like Home Front caused Council's lots of problems because a vast majority of the work carried out required planning permission - especially Diarmund Gavins works in the garden - so people have come unstuck when they have tried to do it themselves...

The people who need these makeovers the most are not likely to have a detached house on a large enough plot where the makeover can be Extreme!!! and do we want a watered down version?

I think we need to devise our own version which will work for us - but without the usual suspects to present it - like LLB, Alan T, Handy Andy - I am sure that we have our own home grown craftsman who could become involved...

But what about it being targetted at giving those people what they really deserve - a good quality, affordable, modern, energy efficient home...

The whole issue of timber framed houses is null and void, here in Northern Ireland a lot of new houses are being built that way - including my second floor apartment! It's faster, stronger and easier to insulate.

It would be great to see abc do a UK special, but I think the whole issue of space is a problem. We live in a much smaller country which doesn't have the great expanses of space that the US does. Like someone mentioned above, the only families with enough space to go 'extreme' are those with money and large houses anyway.

Perhaps they could go extreme on a more public place, like a childrens hospice or community run project?

I would love extreme makeover to come to over here but they wouldn't be able to tear houses down and build again in 7 days but it would be great if they could do up houses and maybe add extensions on them if they feel the families need more space, it would be graet if they could do up council houses to, as alot of them need it. Smile
