I'm looking at buying a house that is about 7 years old but has marks on the tops of external walls in living room, and 3 bedrooms, the marks look like black 'soot'marks do not come off when touched are not damp to touch. The house is empty and has been for several months and all services disconnected and system drained. Any ideas as to what they could be caused by, they do not look like any damp i've ever seen.
