I remember this was suggested back in the 1970's when prices suddenly surged ahead. I particularly remember one series on television of two couples sharing the house they bought together. It was a comedy and I paid particular attention to the wallpaper on the lounge as it was identical to paper I had found as surplus in a local diy shop and have never found before or since - still love it! This sharing of a mortgage has been tried before and I would love to see this play/series repeated - loon pants and all - or updated, as I still remember it and that's unusual for telly fluff.
