according to all the pundits i should be able to retune my digibox to receive all the new channels. yea right!! Frown it works if i do it whilst dear dave is not broadcasting.tTrouble is neither is uktv history then. Cry As soon as dave starts my UKtv history channel just says either data service or no service. If retune whilst dave is broadcasting it doesn't even pick the channel up. Mad I can't keep staying up till 3am to try to retune my favourite channel. I am now suffering severe withdrawal symptons. GET THIS SORTED Angry Angry Angry

World ruler (what a bigheaded, self centred title. The last person who had a title like that was a certain Mr Hitler) You obviously have no interest in bringing back UKTV history, so why don't you do us all a favour and get back to watching Dave? You are probably the only viewer ~ in fact i wouldn't be at all surprised if you were revealed to be the idiot behind this latest programming farce.

Very unhappy at the disappearance of UKTV History from Freeview in the evening.

I am someone else who has registered JUST TO EXPRESS MY DISAPPOINTMENT at loosing some of the best evenings viewing available. Sad as it may seem I have made sure that I have been in each evening at 9-00pm to watch the repeats of Tenko ( just a little nostalgia) and cannot understand the logic of putting on a series when it was predestined to come to an abrupt end. And no - I cannot watch it at 5-00pm. I am further inconvenienced by being at work! Without any doubt UK History was the one channel that I consistently enjoyed. P-l-e-a-s-e THINK AGAIN. Surely the amount of complaints that have been generated prove something? Angry

It was due to UKTV History I took an interest in ancient Rome. I won`t be watching it during the day and I won`t be watching "Dave" either. Hope this infuriating decision is a total flop and soon reversed. Mad

The real problem is a loss of advertising revenue so something had to be cut. Now we can record the History channel during the day to watch later. This is fantastic because now we can just flick-through the ads and concentrate on the programmes! (We could have always done this but it never occured to me)
Of course this is just a prelude to removing it from Freeview altogether.
On the other hand, we mustn't be hippos..............we expect to be paid ourselves for work and services.

I've just registered specifically to add my voice to the chorus of disapproval about the way UKTVHistory has been "downgraded" on Freeview.
I can only assume that the same wee nyaffs who were responsible for thinking up "Dave" (obviously the same kind of numpties we get applying for jobs at our agency; you know the type, a*rse of their jeans down to their knees, hair like Fran Cosgrave on a spin dry, arms full of dragon tattoos; the type that rushes into meetings shouting that they've just heard a great 'new' song that would be ideal for the new Microsoft campaign - "Computer Love" by some exciting new group called Kraftwerk. Let's face it, we all know one.) came up with this fabulous new revenue-enhancing scheme.
I spent half an hour resetting my channels on Freeview wondering what the hell had happened to Attenborough, the World at War etc only to finally click and Google.
Although I do like QI I don't really think I want to watch umpteen episodes back to back and I certainly don't want to watch that wee greasy troll Mark Lamarr broadcasting his ego on cr*p repeats of Buzzcocks.
I only have Freeview on in the kitchen but it is/was always tuned to UKTVHistory. It'll be on BBC3 or 4 from now on.
People have been saying this country's going to the dogs for years; it WENT years ago. I blame Channel4, personally...

I think we safely sum up UKTV's responses as "loyal UK History viewers - we prefer pandering to mindless morons."

Angry well it started out as a good channel . I suppose anything that has a bit of intelligence nowadays is destined to fail. The programs had begun to detiorate a while ago. But even so, some programs were still worth watching. The final insult is something called "Dave". We live in a word run by morons.

Nice idea Fred 81 .. I could record it while I was at work except, I dont know how it works with a black box, but I have a digital tv and to record one of the Freeview channels on you have to leave the TV on that channel and ON! Eek
I am not sure I fancy leaving my TV on all day anyway but I am also sure it will do my carbon footprint or something no earthly good at all. Confused
Oh well that is me out of another alternative idea Angry

I'm sure the group of people who came up with Dave are an extremely nice bunch of people who wanted to do nothing more than to maximise their revenue stemming from their Freeview output without completely abandoning the historical content for the loyal historical fans, rather than get shouted down rudely by a bunch of people who don't have a clue about the way the media works and think that just because they have a large gob and an internet connection they are in a prime position to speak about the status of TV channels today.

Oh and I'm sure after reading these boards, the UKTV management will be really keen to listen to what you say. In fact, why don't you lot send some of the stuff you have posted here to them - I'm sure they'll really appreciate it. Not only that, start your message with 'dear UKTV-worker' - then after reading that and your e-mail, UKTV History will be destined to make a return to Freeview between 18:00-01:00, no doubt about it whatsoever.

It seems World Ruler has a problem with living in a democracy where individuals are allowed to voice their displeasure on a decision with which they disagree.

I am one of the masses who enjoyed UKTV History and have contacted UKTV directly to express my annoyance at its removal in the evenings. I've been able to do it because my grandparents fought in the Second World War to preserve the freedoms to which we have become accustomed (democracy and freedom of expression being just two). It is interesting (and somewaht ironic!) to note that the very channel that gave coverage of this fight has been withdrawn from general evening viewing.

This does not, however, mean that we cannot continue to pass comment if we so choose. And it would seem there are plenty of us who feel that UKTV is misguided in its decision to withdraw UKTV History at night. Many of us are even under the age of 40! The responses given by their employees, shows the contempt with which the viewer is held.

Just as I respect the right of World Ruler to his opinions, I trust that he will respect those of us with opposing views and not resort to trite comments in place of informed argument. I also hope my fellow UKTV History fans will continue with their comments without resorting to similar sarcasm (it merely ends up with a grand old slanging match otherwise!).

For the record, I have nothing against the dave channel per se, in fact have found the repeats of Who's Line Is It Anyway? almost as funny the second time as I did the first. I just want programme choice - sometimes entertainment and sometimes factual content. As by day I work for a living, my viewing is confined to the evenings. Fortunately, they haven't yet taken BBC4 off Freeview, so those of us who like more informed content can still watch a documentary channel without the unnecessary interuption of adverts. And if there's nothing to watch but repeats on all the other Freeview channels, there's always the 'Off' button!
Overall, UKTV is the loser.

Hi all again.
I would like to speak on behalf of those people who don't know how to use a computer to complain. How do they voice their opinions? Is there a telephone number for them so I can pass it on.

Very sad to see such a good program close down. Yes close, as it is no longer on TV at a time that I am available IE not working.

David in Lincolnshire.
