Doctor Who (bring back the old b&w ones too!)

I love the new series and its great that UK GOLD are playing this. However, I would also like to see some of the old black and white ones again from the Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee era. I know some of these are missing but it would be great to see the series from the start. What does anyone else think?

I also was surprised that Claws was on, was skipping through the channels. If UK Gold does repeat stories like the Baker Ones from January, would these be the re-mastered copies, or the copies UK Gold have screened since 1992 ?

Blurgh Unfortunately with the BBC holding the rites to DR WHO they are probably aiming a releasing the original series on DVD first in order to cashing on it increased marked ability a new wider audience.

What would be helpful if someone from UKTV would simple state if they will be showing it anymore or if they are trying to get the rites to broadcast any further episodes? Confused

Sigh... they showed the movie the other night. Which would've been fab if they actually ADVERTISED it. Come on UKTV Gold, if you're gonna put them on a 2am, could you at least let us know about it?

Don't get your hopes up! The person who posted this:

"DOCTOR WHO IS COMING BACK I*N THE NEW YEAR
THE FOLLOWING NEWS IS BY THE BBC NOT ME

UK Gold will travel back to Tom in the New Year"

was using info from a November 2004 news item from the BBC site! This was relating to January 2005, not 2007!

I don't care if there are only half of the stories in crappy formats, I still wanna see them! Still, at least they're gonna show SOMETHING.

DOCTOR WHO IS COMING BACK I*N THE NEW YEAR Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
THE FOLLOWING NEWS IS BY THE BBC NOT ME

UK Gold will travel back to Tom in the New Year.

Those of you wondering what will happen to UKTV Gold's run of Doctor Who once it gets to Survival and the end of the series, will be interested to hear that the channel will be resuming its screenings in the New Year.

It's good news for Tom Baker fans, but bad news for those of you loving monochrome or Jon Pertwee's bouffant, as from 8 January UKTV Gold will be going back to 1974, starting its run with the Fourth Doctor adventure Robot.

The series will continued to be shown in omnibuses on Saturday and Sundays.

PS Apparently there is a problem with the b&w ones and this might mean they dont get shown. The problem is that BBC Worldwide, who own the licence, want to release all the b&w on DVD all clean and lovely. But, this is a different licence and UK Gold have to release the rubbish versions. UK Gold dont want the rubbish - they want good quality nice version, but BBC Worldwide dont want to give nice versions as they want to sell their DVDS etc. So we wont see anything with Patrick or William, except for The Three, Five & Two Doctor's.

I think you are starting to get a little scary about all of this. Develish

I hear they are returning in September and starting with Jon Pertwee. They have also announced black & white ones will start in the mornings from November. Good news? Go here for further information: [link]

The new series rekindled my interest in the old classics and since it's not on TV any more, I've been going through boxes of videos that are years old - so old that Terror Of The Autons is black and white - only to find that many have beginnings missing and one has the Eastenders Omnibus in the middle! Come on, UKTV, show 'em again so I can bring my collection back up to date and make my best friend sit through hours of classic Doctor.

UKGold, please please please please tell us if you plan to bring Dr Who back. The BBC Dr Who web site is showing that children who have seen the new Dr Who, are showing an interest in the classic series. So showing the classic Dr Who might please both the traditional fans (whom you seem happy to annoy) and catch new young viewers, which could build a new following amongst a younger generation for your channel. Think about it.

At the moment they are about 23 complete adventures from the b/w era, i too would like to see these stories.

Just a suggestion but if classic Who should return (please, please!!!!), how about showing the stories in their original episodic versions.Perhaps 1 episode saturday morning, with the next episode being shown sunday morning.
As much as I love being able to sit and watch an entire story from start to finish if the show was spread over 2 or 3 weekends then it's run on tv would last longer.
As for showing some of the Hartnell and Troughton stories, the very thought gives me goosebumps Big Grin
