Dr Who - Lack of Continuity

There I was, looking at the listing for Friday, 11 April and thinking "Oh good, two episodes of Dr Who, back to back with the first episode being 'Bad Wolf'". My grand-daughter (aged 7 but has been a doctor who fan since 1962!) saw that it was this episode, "And then it's 'Parting of the Ways'", she says.
Well, it would be normally, but not in UKTV Gold's run of episodes, it's episode one of series 2 of the new era!
The end of "Bad Wolf" leaves the viewer on a cliffhanger, which is solved in the "Parting of the Ways", but you just leave it dangling!
Is there some strange copyright reason for this?
