The Bill

Thread Starter: littleliz    Started: Thu 26 Apr 2007    Replies: 32

I have checked the tv listings on the internet and it looks like the Bill begins old episodes from this Monday. Cant tell how far back they begin but Boyden, Page, and Garfield amongst others are credited. Hope they all run in order though and dont jump about. Fingers crossed.

To DANSDEALS2007 - I absolutely totally agree with you, bring back the bill 2006!!!

To VG74 - talk about adding to your collection, have you noticed that Australia seem to release DVDs of the Bill way before the UK? How annoying is that?

All I want is for someone from UKTV Gold to let us know how long these cameo episodes are on for and what is being shown after that season is finished. UKTV Gold should stop messing about, bring back the Bill 2006, show "old Bill" and get rid of some of the other rubbish that is constantly doing the rounds - or do I just sound plain old greedy!!!

Oh dear I'm so confused! So the majority of you want new episodes of The Bill back after they mysteriously vanished?

And then a load more of you like the older seasons and want them to show more of those?

Either way make your mind up, I think we're all agreed on one thing, is that UKGold have got to start paying closer attention to their viewers instead of completely ignoring our opinions?

I wasn't happy about the drop back to 1998, but for goodness sake show the older episodes in order. Samantha Nixon's in next Monday's ep, making it 2002! (Good episode, but part of a serial killer continuing storyline.)

I'd have liked another few months on the 2006 shows before going back around 5-6 years, as has happened since UK Gold started - but the older eps were always in sequence. My suggestion: if ITV won't allow the rest of the 2006 episodes to be shown yet, drop back just a few years and show all of them. The unnamed episodes starting in 2002 (and I believe a few months before that) have only been shown on Gold once, so that seems like a reasonable point - plus I'm missing a couple of those as well as most of 2003 and early 2004.

I really do not want to trawl all through the '80s and '90s again but if some people do there could be a concurrent showing in a different timeslot, maybe on UKTV Drama: surely the dreadful American detective shows don't need that much time! Please at least do a full run of the episodes since the current best characters (Sam, Phil and Gina IMO) started - again, the 2002 start would accomplish this - and we wouldn't be subjected to the two mass exoduses caused by the Boulton murder and the fire. Even better, Polly Page exposure would be greatly limited!

I currently subscribe to satellite purely for The Bill as everything else good is available on DVD, and if I don't see an opportunity to complete my collection any time soon I might as well just cancel. As for the guest stars, who cares? The Glynis Barber show on Thursday is a good one but most of the others just seem to have been on Eastenders, a show I've done my best to avoid for the last 22 years!

Yes Bring back episodes thats just been screened on ITV that most people have seen. Thats a great idea. Lots of people will watch some soap driven dross theyve just seen on ITV wont they. If you didnt get a chance to see them, then unlucky. I could give you detailed synopsis of what happened if you like. Most people have seen them within the last 12-18 months.

You want to try going on to The Bill forums and see how many The Bill fans actually want to see the trash theyve recently witnessed on ITV. There aint many trust me.

Lets look at facts. in 1993 The Bill was getting 20 million viewers, it now gets around 5-6 million.

Ok we now have digital TV so theres more choice, but still I think the facts are it was far more popular back then when it had gritty crime issues and virtually no soap.

I admit the 30 min episodes were rather dull in 1998, which is why the show soon after that went to 1hr long really gritty excellent episodes.

The episodes that ,most Bill fans seem to want (Including myself) are from around the early-mid 90s. The show was at its pure best then.

And a channel called UKTV Gold Should do what it says on the Tin, and showing recently screened episodes of shows isnt doing that.

Replies I read earlier posted on the 5 May seem to have been deleted again but the gist seemed to be that there was something wrong with you if you didn't agree with someone elses point of view. Well that will never happen in a month of Sundays. If it wasn't for gold showing old episodes then no one would have seen repeats this far into 2006 because no one else shows them. I was always under the impression that gold showed 'old' tv programmes so seeing episodes right up to date never seemed to be a possibility and as The Bill doesn't run in seasons there would never be a 'right' episode to finish on. Many programmes show for a few weeks and finish on a cliffhanger and there is no option but to go away and do something else and wait for when it returns to find out what happens next.
Some of us are enjoying the nostalgia of 'old Bill' again although I am the first to admit that some episodes were better than others. I was also enjoying the 2006 episodes and have to wait to fill the gap between then and now. I suppose I am saying we all have different tastes and we all need a turn. And it is only telly after all!
To add my vote to the fit men listed above I would have to add Craig Gilmore now no longer in The Bill. I have two or three years of old episodes to go before I get to my favs.

For a start, I couldn't get to see the bill during the evenings as I had other commitments, if that makes me and the others pathetic then so be it, I must be, because you said so.
I find it odd that people are happy to be watching the same repeats over and over again, but if they are happy with that who am I to insult them?

Just because people dont share the same views as you doesn't make them wrong!

When UK GOLD started years ago it was excellent as it showed classic episodes of lots of different shows. Thats what made UK GOLD popular. people watched it to watch classic episodes of shows they havnt had a chance to see for years. Thats what made UKGOLD great.

That was the whole idea of calling the channel "UKGOLD". How can you call a channel UKTV GOLD and show episodes of The Bill most people have just watched around 12 mths ago. Also the same with casualty and Eastenders.

Im sure people would rather watch The Bill from years gone by when it was at its best rather than soapy dross they have only just had to endure on ITV.

You may have missed some of the episodes, but most people have seen them and the rating would suggest they would rather watch old episodes.

There is nothing pathetic about wanting to see episodes shown only one year ago especially as I wasn't even in the country back then to be able to watch them. UKTV Gold do broadcast lots of classics like Some mothers do have em and now Dallas is being shown. I've never heard of The Short Straw or Target. You are missing the point. My complaint is about UKTV Gold showing only half a season and then changing the format without any explaination. The Bill is an extremely popular show and if UKTV Gold were clever enough they should have carried on with the 2006 episodes and broadcast the much older ones too. I only watch UKTV Gold because it is the only channel that gave me a chance to catch up on the Bill, I wouldn't have bothered otherwise. UKTV isn't just for the old folk who like really ancient programmes you know.

I cant believe there is people wanting to watch episodes recently screened on ITV. How pathetic. You guys have only just had a chance to watch them on ITV. UKTV GOLD should be about showing classic shows from years gone by, not showing episodes just scereened on ITV.

Theres many people that want to wtach classic episodes again such as "The Short straw" which was Viv Martellas last episodes and also "Target".

I've been emailing left right and centre to UKTV Gold and ITV1 to get a simple answer to my one simple question which was when will UKTV Gold get back to the 2006 episodes that I was enjoying a week ago. I watched one of the "cameo" episodes a few days ago about a body found under a spitfire and talk about flipping boring. At least the episodes from a year ago and the ones on ITV1 have much better storylines not mention fit men like Fletcher, Smithy, Steve Hunter and even Dan isn't too bad to look at!!! These cameo episodes just aren't as gripping. On ITV1 last night we saw Matt Hinkley getting his come uppance whereas on UKTV Gold he hasn't even appeared yet and at this rate when will he appear, it could be years? Matt Hinkley would have appeared within the next two weeks had UKTV Gold continued with the 2006 season. UKTV Gold's viewing schedules must cover months ahead I would have thought. Show some consistency UKTV Gold if you care about what your viewers think and bring back the 2006 episodes right now!!

It's true, us Casualty fans are getting Nostalgic - you gotta look at the bigger picture, what does the majority of viewers want?

See now I honestly believe that viewers want anything but what UKGold are showing at the moment, not just in Casualty, or The Bill, but people clearly aren't happy - look at how many complaints there are around!

I for one intend to do something about it - they can delete my posts all they want (which they do), butwork out what you'd prefer, new Bill or old Bill, and then help me make TV better for the rest of us!

This is true, and on a positive note I was getting nothing done when they had 2 hours per morning.............
It will take some getting used to, the new ones - Phil Hunter in uniform - not a pretty sight lol

I had been hoping for a rewind of The Bill as I enjoy watching the older episodes. This is what Casualty watchers have been calling for too. Although the jump daily from half hour to one hour episodes must mean it isnt going to be a complete re run of 1998 as i dont think they jumped about back then. The ads for the new season feature 'famous actors' etc so 1998 may be a short run of those episodes. Gold must have been a fair way into 2006 and as chukkawobbly is doing I have started watching the new episodes on itv and will hopefully fill in the gaps. Dont forget a year of itv works out a lot less on gold.

I have just booked the current weds/thurs episodes on ITV. I should have done it last time. I'll just have to try and fill in the gaps and watch the missed ones when uktv catches up. If I'd have done it last time, I wouldnt be here now - and this will happen again 12 months down the line, that is pretty much guaranteed if what they say is true.
Personally if ITV dont repeat them, then I dont see the problem with releasing them sooner..........

Confused Well - that's their story, I suppose, and they're sticking to it!
I, too, have contacted UK Gold personally before and got the same answer - that we have to wait for ITV to release them...... but if they must do this then I do wish they would pick a suitable place to stop, i.e. at least finish a particular case and not leave us with cliffhangers without any warning and/or any idea how long we must wait for reinstatement. I think I shall go mad if we have to go through the George Garfield/Dave Quinnan/Jenny/Polly Page saga again and the murder of John Boulton by Don Beech, etc., etc, - as you say, we pay for UK Gold and I really object to this although I must admit that I could watch the repeated repeats of Open All Hours until the cows come home!!! However, let's hope we don't have to wait for the cows to come home before The Bill gets back into its rightful slot!!

I have just phoned them. The chap couldn't tell me how long it would be this time, but says ITV only release them when they have been off air for a certain amount of time. Therefore if they haven't got them they can't show them.
Seems logical I guess.

They've reappeared now - odd???

UKTV gold is the only reason I pay for sky, otherwise I'd just go for freeview. If they keep this up i'll be agreeing with hubby - it really is a waste of money!

If they took us nicely upto date with the current series, that would be ace, they can show as many reruns as they like then as far as I'm concerned.

The way i see it is that they must have read your replies - they did delete them after all right?

This is getting you no-where, I went through the same thing with my Holby city and Casualty queries - so what I've done, is started a topic named "DavidUKTV" (he's the big boss guy), and put my comments and questions all in that topic - surely he can't ignore a topic with his name on it. And I've saved the ocnten which I posted, so that if it does get deleted I will just re-post it!

I recommend you put your questions about The Bill in there too, UKGold are really screwing at the moment and i won't rest until we are heard, if you scroll down a bit you'll find it, I only posted it yesterday, but I'll keep bumping it up so it stays high, the topic is named:

"DavidUKTV"

look forward to seeing your posts in there!

Angry Yes - why have yesterday's replies disappeared - and mine among them??!! Is it because they were the truth and the truth hurts? My Mother
and I sat through yesterday's 30 minute episodes of The Bill - and what rubbish: 9 years old - 1998!!! Do the powers-that-be really think we deserve rehashed episodes of Red Herrings, etc.? This has completely
ruined our evening's viewing (we record anything on during the day to watch
at night when we sit down). Please, please, please.........restore The Bill to
where it left off last Friday.........is anyone in authority actually reading these replies??!!
