Message to UKTVGold authorities......

Thread Starter: 80's TV Fan    Started: Sun 11 Mar 2007    Replies: 40

To UKTVGold managment, will you please try and listen to the people who keep your channel going. The devoted viewers who have made your channel one of the most popular in digital land. Endless messages which portray your channel in a negative but accurate light are appearing here and yet little is being done to rectify the matter. If you find it diffcult to come up with a few new shows to suit the wider scale why not just do a poll on your website asking people to vote for the shows they would like to see back the most, such as DYNASTY! Thank you.

lol right you are - but as a British actress, having an interest in such shows is helpful towards my career, as I hope one day I will have the opportunity to star in them, everyone likes their own space sometimes, I need my space, and when I have it, i like to spend it watching Casualty and CSI, except that Casualty has been taken away from me, which is something I find very frustrating - and unnecessary!

I don't understand, did they delete my message already? i wasn't even insulting them I was just stating home truths about my wish for decent UK gold shows instead of all the US crap and I wasn't even mean about it and they delete my post already - isn't that a bit rude?!

BabyDoll I completly agree with you. Casualty is the best show in the world and I would like nothing better then to be able to watch repeats from series 15 onwards as thats when the gorgeous Patrick Spiller was in the show. And from then on Simon, Stitch, Guppy etc. I personally think that the last 7 series should be made into DVD boxsets. After all most US shows are so why not english shows?...

In a few weeks I will be getting SKY+ mainly for UKTV Gold so I hope the current programmes will be changed asap. I do not like any american shows, Doctor Who, Dallas etc.

All I want to watch from UKTV Gold is Casualty, The Bill and Eastenders

Personally I think this channel SUCKS lately!
As if it isn't bad enough that we are being sold twice something that we already own AND have paid to have made by the BBC we now get to watch the same programme the next night, AND if thats not enough you get it again on the weekend.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take some advice, buy a graphics card and a lead to connect it to your TV and CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT, WHEN and save yourself some money,
YOU ALREADY OWN THIS MATERIAL!!!
YOU COMMISSION THE BBC TO MAKE IT
IF I COMMISSION AN ARTIST TO DRAW A PICTURE ITS MINE NOT HIS TO RE-SELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets see if we have a democracy here or an autocracy, see if this post lasts any time!

Oh dear oh dear do you lot have nothing better to do than whine on about how you want to change a tv channel! No matter how much you complain they aren't going to listen to you, well about .1% of uktv veiwers anyway.

Now maybe if everyone stopped watching uktv gold then yes they just might change it, but seeing as i am and lots of other people are quite happy with the channel, its not going to change so HA!!!!

Keep up the good work i love all your programmes!!!!

No logic, they must think we are all mindless zombies. If i had money i would love to set up my own channel called golden tv, and show stuff from usa and uk from the 50`s-90`s and start shows from their first episodes. I`d love to meet up with somebody from the bbc and or uktv to clear up points people have made on here. I`d love to know why programes are kept in archives just to gather dust and never shown on tv or dvd

No luck, but who says nobody wants to watch them? Any fan of Casualty who isn't out on a weekday morning will more than happily sit and watch nostalgia, and many do. I can only speak for Casualty, but I have no doubt that if anyone likes a show, watching old episodes from their past, or seeing episodes before they started watching it is really interesting and entertaining to watch, and more importantly, what UKGold is all about!

By all means they can go and they can have their USTV Gold channel if that's what they really want to do, but don't go clogging up UKTV Gold with US shows because its a contradiction of the channel itself!!

Yano, a couple of weeks ago, they took Casualty off the air, they didn't actually tell us they were going to do that, we weren't at the end of a season or anything, with no prior warning, bang in the middle of series 20 (which I was actually starting to really enjoy, despite it not being a Gold series at all) just vanished into thin air one day, no explanation, and it hasn't returned since - what the HELL was that all about?!?!

Now it appears there are no channels in the world that show Casualty apart from BBC's new episode once a week - that's just great!

I'm not dissing everyone's favourites, as you said, a rerun of those shows can never go wrong, and they are perfect for UKGold, I don't have a problem with those shows, they have their own slots and they do a good job, they're classics - I have an issue with the timetabling, lack of communication, and apparent lack of hospital dramas hitting our screens currently - I've been going absolutely mad trying to point out how many people want to see series 14/15 of Casualty again, which is something any fan would want, seeing how it's NEVER gonna come out on DVD, making UKGold the only place possible to show it, and instead, they muck up the timetable, put Holby City on at graveyard 4 times a night in a mucked up order, then take it off altogether, THEN start Casualty half-way through a season that we've already seen 80 or 90 times this year, and then half-way through the next season they hack it, without warning, explanation or logic, and in its place, they calmly put Dr Who, which already has its own slot later on in the day!!!!!!

Where the hell is the logic in this?!!!

Uktv gold will have more american shows for us, no more old 80`s eastenders, the bill or casualty because nobody wants to watch them. And another re-run of everyones favourites like my family, dinner ladies, ofah and open all hours and maybe even a few more shows they dont have room for on uktv documentary/people/style and gardens. Any luck getting a reply babydoll?

I doubt they got that from looking at this board, so if they need to get a new license every time they want to show the same series - must it be driving them mad having to get the license for series 18 of Casualty over, and over and over again - when they could be doing just about anything else with their time?!

Wow so they're willing to take something off the TV due to poor audience numbers, yet not willing to put something on the TV that might just increase audience numbers - we have some logical people in this company.

If a channel wants to keep fresh they must be willing to accept new licencing. Now, UKTVGold seem to be looking at this board ebcause they have reinstalled two classics at long last, i.e. Dalals and Charlies Angels. However in terms of doing a good wide round circle they are not delivering as Dallas was last screened in 2002-2003. It had been screened from 2001-2002 prioer to that repeat. However, the other super-soap classic DYNASTY was last repeated in around 1999/2000 While Dallas is on its 3rd repeat Dynasty is still at 0 in that time. UKTVgold are not giving it their all and provoding us with a fresher TV lisitng. With Dallas on the go now its obvious they will not have Dynasty for us for 2 years at least. I'm so sick of this channel.

Licensing would (probably) not be the issue is that scenario, it could be but is unlikely. Chances are poor audience numbers or a different license/agreement has something to do with it.

Sun 13 May 2007, 5.31PM

jules

If licensing is an issue with old series then why is a series cut off half way through. Or can they buy half a licence!!!

Sun 13 May 2007, 4.45PM

SamJ

Licensing is an issue regardless of how many times they've played a series, usually a channel will need to get a new license each time they wish to show the series, chances are the owners of the series were asking too much.

Sat 12 May 2007, 4.47PM

Babydoll =D

I do understand the restraints there are when it comes to showing a new series of a show, however I also know that the series that I have been petitioning for is not a new series, and there are no licensing issues associated with this series, as UKGold have shown it once before.

I'm not asking for the impossible, I'm asking them to make a logical decision, instead of repeating the same single series 5 times in a row. I do know what you're saying SamJ, but some of us do know what we're talking about.

Stormcat, you will see from my post that I don't think everyone here is a 'moron'. I don't think the sporadic scheduling is due to ineptitude of UKTV, more like the constraints imposed on them through licensers and production companies.

Hi Sam, Actually I have worked as a professional in the media for 15 years, including advertising and broadcast, I do understand how media companies work and that is what makes me so angry with UKGold because I know what goes on, in fact I have even been a temp at UKTV many years ago. Don't presume that we are all morons because we watch this channel, we are entitled to an opinion,it is after all my human right to complain about this further dumbing down of tv. How can you possibly justify the incredible amount of repeats and terrible scheduling that UK G come up with..they drop shows half way through the series, change the times of programmes, repeat the same episode maybe 10 times a week. that is no way to run a business nor keep a loyal viewing public. I fully understand your point that they have constraints but it is beyond a joke. All they have to do is put on a bit of programme variety (not only fools over and over agian - as much as I love it) maybe even air the shows at regular times and let the series run through to the end, don't start repeating it half way through. It is not rocket science, just the ineptitude of UKTV. Wink

Can I, as evidently one of the FEW SANE PEOPLE that reads these messages make a point (and I apologise for any offence caused)-

UKTV Gold is run by professionals, they get paid A LOT of money to do what they do and they have A LOT of experience in doing it. You do not. There are SO MANY reasons why the same shows are played and repeats are a plenty, the most obvious being cost.

That said - UKTV Gold is one of the most popular in the UKTV network, why? Because the people at the top know what they are doing and what customers want. The ten or so of you on this thread complaining about their schedules, and indeed the SMALL MINORITY on these boards screaming foul because of the schedules are just that - the small minority. For every complaining person here there will be several hundreds of thousands that have no beef with the way the channel is run.

Yes you can voice your opinions but please face facts and stop monopolising these boards - UKTV Gold IS pleasing the majority of customers and WILL NOT be changing any time soon. This is a message board to DISCUSS UKTV Gold - it isn't a platform for compalining to them, nor will, I hate to break the bad news, your 'suggestions' be taken into account - you are not professionals! UKTV Gold is making money and pleasing the majority - there are no grounds for them to change.

Sorry about the essay!

Agreed - I never liked the Simon/Lara saga in the first place, only thing I did like was in Emotional Rescue (2) when she cries on Luke's shoulder - THAT's how well I know that series!

I have been assured that we have not been completely ignored, and something might, wait for it... ACTUALLY be done about our comments!!!

Just give it time - I will know more in the morning when the post is shown, much like this one.

I wholeheartedly agree. Why do UKTV continue to ignore valuable customers? I too am aware that schedules need to be changed from time to time, but why not let the fee paying public know if a program is to be scrapped i.e. Holby. It's only manners to let us know that it won't be back on at the end of the program - however to totally ignore questions on the matter is diabolical.

Casualty - I personally cannot bear to sit through the Simon/Lara scenario yet again.

I wonder if the BBC are aware of how their excellent Casualty/Holby are being presented by UKTV.

I too am not a moaner/complainer normally, in fact I'm so happy go lucky, however this situation has really got me down.

Cry Cry Confused Confused

Please UKTV RESPOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea right, they say this is a make-over, but they just put the same repeats of the same series they've been putting on for years - the only thing that's new is that they've stopped with all the good!!

It drives me crazy that UKGold is the only channel around with the rights to series 14/15 of Casualty, it's not likely to ever come on DVD (xxxx the BBC), and yet they choose to show repeats of the same series which any fan who bothers to watch it has taped now anyway, I found series 18 on e-bay a few weeks ago, and I can guarantee you it's all taped from UKGold, I can't tell you when though, because they've played it so many times! It's a terrible season anyway!

Glad to hear that they started listening about Dallas, you saying it took you a year? Well hopefully it won't take me that long - I really don't understand why they are being so stubborn about this - that's what's getting to me the most, it's more frustrating not hearing anything, than any other response they could possibly bring to us!

The most response I've got from them so far was:

"Thanks for your email. Unfortunately, we are only able to respond to
Message Board related issues."

Which I assure you, my issue is with this message board, and the poor moderation - when I say poor I mean, they think they have the right to delete innocent posts and yet don't feel it is their duty to justify anything that they do.

See the post I started named DavidUKTV, that's for direct questions to him, feel free to bump it with a comment, but I'm not resting until at LEAST that gets a reply!

Hi Babydoll, You are right it is a shame as I for one used to watch UKGold all the time and not just dip in and out for the odd show as that is what kind of channel it used to be. You wouldn’t go brain dead watching it as there was a good variety of programming on. Then some fresh out of marketing college bod comes up with the bright idea of rebranding the channel, marketing to the yoof and repeating the same shows over and over and over again, whilst trying to rip them off with phone ins about Comedy Superheroes.
However having seen that Dallas is on again… something I remember begging for last year, I went home and watched it and was very pleased so maybe they have realised that their viewing figures are now smaller than the community channel’s and have decided to listen to us. But I wouldn’t hold my breath!
Also please bring back Prisoner Cell Block H – it has a HUGE cult following and more people would watch it than some repeat of the Vicar of Dibley! Smile
