Angry It's NOTHING like what it was when it started;classic B/W and colour shows or various vintages shown in all their glory and unedited too;and when thames left the partnership it was the death of a great station no longer a TRUE Gold channel like it was, and now the Beeb has it all to itself no longer goes back to the older back catalogue of shows tending to show newer and more recent stuff! It should be called UKTV Recent Gold because basically that's what it is!

I totally agree. I know there are a lot of Olny Fools fans out there, me included at one one time, but not anymore, I think the programme has been done to death now, eg: all day most weekends.

We all need a bit of variety in our lives cause as with Gold we get BORED.
There have been lots and lots of complaints about this channel on this message board, so I strongly suggest that the powers that be start taking notice. It doesn't take a genius to work out that us, your viewers are not happy anymore with UKTV Gold. Develish

UK Gold is not as good as it used to be! I'm sick of Only Fools & Horses being repeated on there. Whatever happened to the "Gold" in UK Gold?

stale is an understatement ukgold lost it's oomph when they tried to mess up the schedule!!!

Is is so much to ask that the programs that we've always loved are aired regularly as they used to be, and at the times we were already adjusted to?

Is it completely insane to desire older episodes of our favourite dramas on a channel called UK "GOLD"!?

Are you really earning more money from showing the same series of certain shows 5 or 6 times over before showing us the series' that we would actually like to see?!

Answer that UKGOLD!

Been there - tried that, let's just face it, the only way to get them to listen to us is to stop watching the channel altogether and get everyone we know to do the same until some decent shows start appearing!!

Do the powers up in Ivory Towers read this message board? If so, then I think we (i.e. "the viewers") deserve some kind of explanation as to the watering down of UKTV Gold (I much preferred it when was called UK Gold. Wasn't so much effort to pronounce). I have noticed that UKTV Drama and UKTV People have also started showing a mixture of programming shown on UKTV Gold. The whole UKTV network is a shambles and basically made up of channels duplicating programming. Is that really value for money in our subscriptions? I don't think so.

Many people have pointed out on this topic that UKTV Gold no longer shows anything that is remotely "gold" anymore. Much of the programming is literally a couple of years old. Whatever happened to the real classics UK Gold used to transmit? The channel was unique when it launched in 1992 but ever since the late nineties it's been a shadow of its former self.

Where can we view real British classics nowadays once shown on the BBC? I know ITV3 shows a mixture of vintage ITV programming (once screened on UK Gold) but many BBC classics seem to have been lost. UKTV Gold needs to be relaunched back into the unique channel it once was. I am sick to the back teeth with seeing "boxsets" of Only Fools & Horses. How many more times will this be repeated? If it's not that, it's Dinnerladies, One Foot In The Grave, My Family, My Hero, The Thin Blue Line.

Whatever happened to Top of the Pops being rerun? Why is The Bill always rewound to circa 1998 whenever it catches up with itself? Why can't we see it from day one in 1984? Why can't we see classic reruns of EastEnders from 1985? Why is Neighbours shown on a graveyard slot? Whatever happened to anything being shown on UKTV Gold pre-1998?

Get your act together, UKTV, and sort your channels out because they are a con. Oh, and one other thing: please drop the "UKTV" brand and rename your channels "UK (whatever)".

Yours,

A disgruntled viewer.

Since the peculiar re-run of The Bill this last few weeks I have been 'surfing' the other channels and have found a whole host of things to watch. Thank you UKTV Gold.

Angry Totally agree with most of whats being said in this thread.

The management or 'suits' are so out of touch with reality. They are wrapped up in their own bubble surrounded by Yes men and don't like to take risks. I know this as I am trying to sell an idea for a TV show.

Its the same old line up all the time. I love fools and horses but I am sick of seeing the repeats all the time. Every now and then they drop on a nice surprise like Dave re running Whose line is it any way?

There is so much they could choose from. I'll give you a list of stuff I'd like to see.

Spike Milligan's Q series (There are some around as spike did a compilation from 1975-80)

Curry and Chips (A BBC Johhny Speight (til Death us do part) show that Spike was in

Til Death us do part

In sickness and in Health

The people of Britain Verses Jerry Sadowitz
The people of New York verses Jerry Sadowitz.
(The funniest most outrageous comic ever in my opinion)

Ripping Yarns

The Goodies (The original BBC shows not the ITV that were run on paramount)

The Boys from the Black Stuff

Scully

Kes

GBH

Shoestring

Anything with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore

Hancocks Half hour

If I had a back catologue of shows from the past to flick through there would be loads more other than the old chestnuts that have be repeated to much.

Yes, I commented last year that UKTV Gold isn't really showing programmes that would categorize as Gold these days. Glad you've all picked up on it too.

But what's Gold and what's not ?

I suppose its down to personal taste, to some extent, but wouldn't the majority agree with the obvious classics such as Dads Army, Z-cars and classic episodes of Doctor Who featuring Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, when the show was at its peak. But perhaps not every story from Doctor Who or Z-cars. Some were rubbish, just show the good ones - do you remember the Doctor and Jo Grant battling Yeti on the London Underground ? That was really scary when I was little. I'd love to see that one again.

I hadn't realised that Thames left and took their programmes with them, but this does explain the fact that Gold has become so dull.

Perhaps when they finally come round to removing the "TV" part from their channel names, they could also introduce a new one called UK Bronze, for all the BBC rubbish like My Family and Last of The Summer Wine?

...sly Wink - Yea, God I miss those days of coming home from school and tuning into UKGold, everybody would know not to speak to me for the next 2 hours, as Holby City and Casualty were on... didn't this channel used to be called UKTV Gold? Anyone remember why that was?!
